Series Thread: First Round - Washington Capitals vs. Philadelphia Flyers

This third period is going to be an absolute war, but we can't play the entire period in our defensive zone and expect to make that 1-0 lead stand up. Eventually they will draw a penalty and score on the power play or get a lucky bounce in front.

Between Neuvy and how well we're playing in our own zone, this period isn't going that badly. We're at a point now where we could actually blank them. Neuvy is definitely frustrating the shit out of them. We need more pucks deep and forechecking though.

They may have more speed and skill than us, but we have more heart.

That's what this game was all about.

People are going to say that Neuvy stole one, but we truly played a gem of a game in our defensive zone.

Blocked an absolute ton of shots and never let them get to the net.

Yes, the goal by White was a dirty, lucky goal, but he was open in front of their net with the puck. I don't recall many Caps having that same opportunity and that's why we won this one.

And now the pressure and the newspapers will be writing about the Caps failures from the past. I like the position we are in. A frustrating Caps team going back into Philly playing yet another elimination game. The series clincher is always the toughest game.

If I'm a Capitals fan, I would be really nervous. Out of all the chokes in Capitals' history, this would be the worst. Might even be seen as the worst choke in NHL history in fact.

The huge shot advantage to Washington doesn't really bother me from this game. Why? We locked it down extremely well in our own zone and gave them very little offensively. The few top quality chances that did get through, Neuvy was able to fight off. Just a heart and soul effort from the entire team. Really proud of it. I honestly didn't think there was a chance that we could get the shutout.

He's stopped 75 of 76 shots through two games.

I love it!! Neuvy and the Flyers shut-out the Caps and we are in this series for real. One game at a time and Neuvy is definitely in the Caps' heads.

We can't throw him in the spotlight like that and not give him some goddamn offensive support. Holtby could have knit a fucking sweater in his crease tonight with how little we pressured him.

I'm happy we showed heart and hung in there, and we got the win and stayed alive, but if we don't play better in the next game (and hopefully the one after), we'll lose.

The good news is, every Washington fan and media outlet is probably in full-on panic mode, and that will hopefully affect their players, too.

Now that you guys got reliable goaltending in this series, you no longer have to play a passive box and could afford to play more aggressively. I look for the Flyers to have more offensive chances in game 6, that's how good goaltending can help the offense.

Tremendous defensive effort wasn't pretty but they did what they had to on the road. All the pressure is on the caps let's see them buckle.

They can only score when they have 6-8 PP's hopefully the refs don't give them that BS. Flyers playing well 5 on 5 so they have a chance. Win Sunday maybe Couts comes back for 7...

I said this before the series even started. I predicted the Flyers in 7.
Also said that the Flyers would be a dangerous team to play and they matchup well against the Caps. I think the Caps are history and this may be another one of those 2010 runs. At least I hope so.
