I had a friend across the street from me as a kid who’s mom had one of these and I thought it was an old shitbox and they must really not care about spending money on cars.

It was only when I got older that I realized it was newer than my old man’s Bonneville lol
lol, we had one when I was a kid and I learned to drive in it. At a stop light when it turned green I literally pushed the pedal to the floor to get moving. It was a dull maroon color my mother chose.

I don't. Was it a Canada thing?
No. They renamed it the Freestyle eventually when they entered that phase where every model had to start with an F.

A dull maroon was also the colour of the exhaust on those things.

I had no idea that they ever called that a Taurus. At least they didn't revive the "Probe" name.

My friend who lived across the street from me when I was 17 had an Opel GT. It was a fun car, but him and I got t-boned by a minivan in the parking lot of the grocery store we worked at. He replaced it with a Chevette. He told all the girls in school that he drove a 'vette. I even put GT Bicycles stickers under the logo, so it evolved into the "Vette GT". To make it better, it was bright yellow.

The Opel Manta "A" from the mid 70's was a great car.
My dad had one and unfortunately it was gone before I had a chance to drive it.

EDIT: Speaking of the Manta:
We had 3 of those growing up...fantastic cars. Had one in college, orange with black racing stripes and dual carb. Frame rusted out on it!

I can’t remember which one was shittier, the Chevette or the Citation

Funny same happened to my Dads with the frame. I think that is why it is next to impossible to find any in the US today.
Ours was Blue and for most of the time we owned it had a "custom" exhaust, you could hear the thing miles away.

We had maroon with matching corduroy interior. Yellow with black leather like interior and precursor to the Bumblebee look and the Orange with a Tanish interior.

That is awesome. Yeah ours was Blue with the standard black interior and don't get me wrong it was pretty much on it's last let when we got it but still a fun car to drive. Most cars we got when I was growing up were free or near end of life with my dad being a mechanic. We had plenty of cars if we could get them started they were "ours".

No, it was a Pontiac (basically a copy of the Chevette).

I looked it up, Pontiac had something here that looked similar. J2000 I think.

It's funny because the Acadian was initially based off of the Chevy Nova which was the most popular car at my high school back in the day.

I thought the J2000 was the Sunbird which the Chevy Version in the 70's/early 80's was the Monza?

My first car was a 78 nova. In college me and a buddy were out drinking and I’ll never forget in his thick New York accent he said “this car has more sound effects than a Star Wars movie.” It was a piece of shit. Ran great but the frame rusted out.

Was the "Poor" Mans muscle car.

And like most rebranded vehicles GM did they ruined the 6th gen Nova in the 80's.
