I was 18, Summer Sanitarium Tour, summer of 2000, Metallica was the headliner. It rocked, but it was kind of a bummer because Hetfield had hurt his back while water skiing a few days before, think he herniated a disk, and so he had to miss a couple of shows, including mine. so jason newsted, the bass player, sang many of the songs in his absence, and some of the singers from the other acts covered in his place, including guys like jonathan davis of korn, and..sigh...kid rock. venue was kentucky motor speedway in sparta KY, it was brand-new, just opened.

edit: matter of fact, i just went to youtube and found some footage of it that someone posted:

We scored bigly with Chris DeBurgh as the back up. He'd just released the Spanish Train album. Wasn't long after he was a headliner.

Judas Priest headlined...was Krokus there? Scorpions? Fuck I can't remember. Was my first time smoking/drinking beers and taking a valium. I was about 4th row with my viking friend before any of the bands played, and standing on the folding chairs started to get difficult when the valium took hold. I had to go to the first row of the mezz where some other friends were camped out. Just melted in the chair for about an hour before my legs got back underneath me. Clawed my way back to my spot before Judas Priest took the stage. Joints started going back and forth as soon as the lights went out and the music/motorcycle started. Very good show. Sound was top notch...almost too good?

I'm embarrassed to say mine, but I was like 5 years old.

Trace Atkins opened up for Kenny Chesney at a tiny outdoor venue that no longer exists before either of them were big acts.

Probably my first 50 concerts were at that venue with my step grandma, most of them were better than that. Saw and met George Jones there numerous times growing up.

My first major venue show was Jamey Johnson when he opened up for Hank Williams Jr when I was 18.

My second concert was Cheap Trick. It was the best concert I've ever been to.
