Traded for the 66th pick.

I like that a lot. Not much of a risk for a Sens team that is young and won't compete for a cup any time in the next couple of years. They get to try out a 21 year old sniper who has, as of yet, untapped potential. Meh....if he doesn't work out, just move on.

The Sens get rid of a old floater in Kovalev to bring in a young floater in Filatov. Everybody loves a reclamation project. I hope it works out for the Sens, kenny, I think Murray did a good job at the draft table yesterday.

Filatov has blazing speed and great hands. Perhaps he matures and turns into a 30-35 goal scorer. If not? No big deal, the Sens have tonnes of cap space and at least a couple of years to replace him once they become a contender again.

Even if there is a small chance that he realizes his potential, it is certainly worth the gamble of a 3rd rounder. It's just so hard to find that kind of skill and speed.

I'm liking the Sens draft this year too. Some nice skill and grit up front. Exactly what that team needs.

Garth talked up this kid leading up to the 2008 draft hoping one of the top 4 defenseman would fall. Sorry, but this guy couldn't make it with the Blue Jackets. He's a bust.

Career over at 21? Maybe just a tad premature.

He's played 43 games in the NHL. Some other guys from his draft that are considered pretty bluechip prospects, yet have produced at the rate that Filitov has or worse, include:

Colborne
Tikhonov
Boychuk
Hodgson

He's got great skill and speed. Maybe it works out for him in Ottawa and maybe it doesn't. However I'd trade a 3rd rounder for Filatov everyday of the week and twice on Sundays.

It doesn't look like the Sens will be bad for much longer. Got some very good young players and looks like finally have a goalie in Anderson. Plus the fact Binghamton won the Calder Cup this year are all great signs for the future.

How many chances is he going to get? The moment things begin going bad he will bolt for Russia. I'm actually surprised he hasn't signed with a KHL team already.

In his defense, they rushed him into a lineup that wasn't suited for his game. Plus he never had any centre to play with that complimented his skill level. This could very well be a Grabner situation, where the change in scenery causes him to break out big time.

We shall see, but I'm not sold. The Senators were the 5th worst team in the league. Columbus actually had a better record. So Ottawa can't possibly be much better than Columbus is today. Especially with the addition of Carter.

I like the move a lot because I feel like he was definitely rushed into the league and then handled very poorly after that.

The year he was drafted it was said that he was close to Stamkos in terms offensive upside. Now that may be a bit of a stretch but he has tons of skill and that doesn't just go away. He's probably going to get a chance to play with Spezza next year and if he excels then that's awesome and if he doesn't then it doesn't. There's virtually no risk here so it's worth a shot.

The Sens have better leaders then Columbus and a real #1 center that he can play with. He has a better chance of succeeding in Ottawa then he did in Columbus. I pretty much can guarantee that.

LOL. And he's close to Alexandre Daigle in terms of head-caseness.

Hey, at least the Citizen will have a new target.

Kenny's got the right perspective. Meh. Forgotten soon enough.

The Jackets sent a coach to Russia to work with him in the offseason, got him back early for camp, essentially guaranteed him a spot on a top 2 line provided he play a little defense too all after getting rid of the coach he hated (not why they got rid of Hitch). The Jackets negotiated with his KHL team, paid his salary while over there AND went out of their way to fight through all kinds of legal loopholes about his contract to get him into camp last year.

Yeah. Murray can't even, you know, CALL a key player who is up for UFA to see if they might be interested in re-signing. So it's definately guaranteed that Ottawa will do more for his fragile little ass.

I'm not making it up. That's what was said at the time Forty. Do I believe that's the case? Not at all...but I do think he's got some potential.

On the Sens he'll be given more slack and he'll be surrounded by better leaders. He'll play with Spezza during the pre-season and if he does decent then he'll probably start the year with him. If he can't succeed playing with Spezza then he'll probably never succeed anywhere in the NHL.

But I definitely don't see it as a risk. At worst he flops and goes back to Russia but if he somehow makes an impact and starts scoring goals then it will be a steal.

I think the whole Hitchcock thing made Filatov not trust the organization. After that it was pretty much over. Again, he'll be given tons of slack in Ottawa as they are rebuilding right now. If he flops then it's no biggie but it's well worth the 3rd pick to give it a try.

Bochenski...LOL

I totally forgot about him.

I don't understand why you think that I think Filatov will definitely be a steal. He might be a steal and I feel like the Sens will do a better job with him but that doesn't mean he'll still succeed. All I've said is that it's not really a risk and it could turn out well. If it doesn't then he goes back to Russia and the Sens have only used a 3rd round pick for the experiment.

As was said above the Blue Jackets went above & beyond for Filatov. They gave him all the slack a team could give. He wouldn't be the first top 5 pick to not live up to his potential & he won't be the last.

Josh Bailey was rushed too. The talent is definately their. Whether Bailey fulfills it remains to be seen.
