former BYU QB Steve Young offers encouragement to current BYU quarterback Hill

When Hill rushed for 259 yards to lead BYU to a 40-21 win over Texas this season, one of the text messages he received was from the former 49ers star.
"Congratulations. I'm really impressed by the way you played," Young texted him.
"He's done that a couple different times," Hill said. "He's a great guy. He goes out of his way to do these things. It's fun to be able to be in that brotherhood and to have allies like that."

The father of Washington interim coach
Marques Tuiasosopo, Manu, was a
teammate of BYU athletic director Tom
Holmoe on the San Franscisco 49ers
team that won Super Bowl XIX in 1985
over the Miami Dolphins.
Manu was a starting defensive lineman
and Holmoe a defensive back on the
team that also included former Cougars
Bill Ring and Todd Shell.
Manu Tuiasosopo and the father of
Manumaleuna grew up together and are
close friends.

My wife has been fighting a cold/the flu for a couple of weeks and took a turn much worse on Christmas... I had to cancel our trip for the game yesterday morning :(
Too late to sell the tickets, so I just have them sitting on my coffee table, at home in Washington.

Wow....that sucks....hope she gets better soon. I was running around like crazy up and down the coast all last week, santa barbara, orange county, sonoma, humboldt....guess it finally caught up to me...the worst was xmas day, couldn't even get out of bed for the most part. I started feeling a bit better late last night and this morning, but not enough to go to a game. Rest and fluids are key...... I don't want to be sick for NYE too, so I'll err on the side of caution.

If I was a betting man and was forced to pick a winner I'd probably have to take BYU. UW lost two of their four games basically on lack of concentration and execution and now have major distractions and an interim head coach as well as the loss of most of their position coaches. If they couldn't focus with their full coaching staff working with them, what makes us think they will tonight?

If they lose it will be because of penalties and stupid unforced turnovers.

with major college playing
experience will dispute me on this,
but it seems to me that at this point
of the season, the presence of
position coaches isn't of paramount
importance, since the players have
had an entire season to internalize
their teachings. Much more
important, I'd argue, is the
continued presence of the play-
caller, and Washington's defense
will be unchanged in that regard by
the continued presence of Justin
Wilcox

The position coaches wasn't the main part of that. They lost their head coach (who called all of the offensive plays) and the distraction of him leaving, the new coaches coming in, the uncertainty of those who haven't left, and questions of who is leaving early or not will all be distractions. Any distractions, even small ones, on a team that already struggled to focus at times isn't a good thing is it? :noidea:
