After watching ogando drop sonny breaking balls in already this season I couldn't help but wonder about him as a starter again.

He definitely can be an effective starter and I'm sure he will at some point this season, but right now our rotation is set and he's too valuable to the pen.

Nefty just the 3rd pitcher in Ranger's history to go 7IP 0ER in his first start

Breaking pitches were never his problem, he has a great slider, he has no changeup though

I know this is only one game but I still think scotman should come in and say he was wrong about Nefty

i was wrong about his 1st game. but there are still 157 games left in the season so i'll wait until game 162 to acknowledge i was wrong about him, if i am. i still have my doubts about his ability to consistently throw his secondary pitches where real hitters don't sit on them and wait for his FB.

that being said, he threw a great game against one of the worst hitting teams in baseball and i hope for more from him thru out the season

Well he faces a weak Twins team next so it wont be until Detroit where we see him really tested.

I'm not complaining. Let him break in on two weaker teams. I am surprised wash let him go 100+ pitches yesterday.

he had no issues throwing his chaneup yesterday, its when he cant locate his fastball that he gets himself in trouble

It is still very, very early in the season. These pitchers don't have their best fastball velocities and as Nolan said on TV last night Neftali has had a tender shoulder. And yet, he crushed a much improved Seattle team playing in a very hitter friendly park.

He has a shot at being the very special pitcher most of us thought he was going to be before they slotted him in as a closer. I think that little 2 year maneuver is going to pay big dividends as they kept the innings down on his arm while he fully matured and he got to learn how to pitch in pressure situations at the major league level while also being coached by one of the premiere pitching coaches in the game.

Who had the better night ... Feliz or Blake Beavan?

Congratulations are in order for Feliz good outing holding SEA scoreless through 7. Very impressive first start.

As nice as it was ... I think Blake Beavan had argueably the better performance holding TEX to only 1 run through 6 due only to Beltre's double ... the blown rundown allowing Young to advance to 2b ... a wild pitch ... and Murphy's single off Kawasaki's glove.

I still believe that Beavan will turn out to be the most significant piece that went to SEA in the Cliff Lee + Mark Lowe trade.

They were both impressive. Beavens ability to run the fastball in on RH batters and Feliz's change up will insure that we'll be seeing more of them in the future. Beaven is really impressive. The Rangers did a good job of refining his mechanics.
Feliz blew me away last night. Never expected the change up to be that refined. It looks like the time he spent with Pedro Martinez in the off season is going to pay dividends. If he can spot the fastball a little better and continue with the change up he flashed last night Feliz and Colby will be swaping rotation spots in the near future.
