Anyone know how much they signed him for?

This whole thing is very weird.

The Browns upper management is very weird.

  • Browns signed No. 94 overall pick QB Dillon Gabriel to a four-year contract.
Gabriel took the bulk of the first-team reps over Shedeur Sanders in rookie minicamp. The Browns have been mixing up the starter reps in OTAs and head coach Kevin Stefanski has said repeatedly not to read into the order of quarterback reps this early in the process. Joe Flacco looks like the best bet to be the team’s Week 1 starter, but at least one of the rookies, if not both, will start at some point this year. As the team’s first quarterback selection in the draft, Gabriel should get the first crack at the job once Stefanski benches his veteran of choice. Whether they want to admit it or not, this is a rebuilding season for Cleveland.
Here's what I've found-
Dillon Gabriel signed a four-year rookie contract with the Cleveland Browns worth approximately $6.223 million. The deal includes a signing bonus of $1,166,063, with yearly earnings of $1,555,835

Shedeur Sanders signed a four-year, $4.6 million rookie contract with the Cleveland Browns after being drafted in the fifth round. The contract includes a $447,380 signing bonus and a fully guaranteed portion of the same amount

Whether you like Sanders or not, this is extremely odd behavior by Browns management.

I like the head coach, but ownership seems to be totally off the wall.

While this did not come from Bears management, there was a suggestion that since the Bears have always had QB issues, they shouldve also used the pick they took Odunze and taken another QB.
Maybe someone in the Browns org thought this idea had merit?

Spray and pray method at QB... fire as many shots as you can, and hope one hits.
To their credit, at least it wasn't a #1 and a #2 or #3 they used.

Seriously, bro, can you name any other team that is using this method?

Broncos hosted free agent RB J.K. Dobbins for a visit.

F my entire life... not only fragging Dobbins, but fragging Harvey too.

I dunno, seems to match their draft position. They took two rookie QBs late and signed them to respective contracts. They’re hoping one will emerge but have Flacco/Pickett while they wait.

If they had drafted Sanders first the noise to let him start would have been deafening. Imagine drafting him first and then starting Gabriel over him. To be able to do development both QBs properly this was the way.

Unless you think Sanders is a no-doubt starter in this league, their approach makes sense.

As opposed to snagging a WR or a defensive player they could use?

No, this makes no sense to me.

Well, to be fair, what impact player was available in the 5th?

I'm much more upset about them using a #2 and a #4 on two top 10 prospects at RB then the Gabriel/Sanders move

From AI:
Since 1994, when the NFL draft moved to seven rounds, 11 teams have drafted two quarterbacks in the same draft class. This includes the 2025 draft where the Cleveland Browns became the 11th team to do so. The Patriots also drafted two QBs in 2024. The other teams to have drafted two QBs in the same draft include the 1980 Raiders and the 2008 Panthers.

Plunkett, Pastornini and Marc Wilson on that roster as QBs.

Not sure who they drafted.
Football Reference only shows them taking one QB in 1980. Mark Wilson.

They did take four LBers, with only one ever playing in a game. Matt fucking Millen.
