I am sure the money offered will dictate how good of coach we get. The ginger has mentors
like Alvarez and Oz (oh crap) to help him out. I'll sit the fence on this as it could go either way. And a win at Iowa kills the topic as we could get to 10 wins this year. HISEC you and I are close in age and saw the 70's & 80's when OZ couldn't win the big one or two or three so you know if Oz is brought in to talk to boosters, he could talk them off the ledge - unless an ultimatum has been given to Bo already - sorry another long rant that most of you will ignore.

Not even ignored.

Twas a good read and as legit a thought as any.

A win at Iowa would actually be 9 wins and that's where I assume Eichorst would make his overall evaluation and comment. It's an example he's already committed to. "Prior Practice" if you will.

From November 30th. 2013 after the 38-17 loss to Iowa.

“My approach has always been to not comment publicly about our coaches until their full seasons are complete, as I strongly believe it is unfair and counter to best practices. However, given the volume of unfounded speculation and conjecture about our head football coach, I want to reaffirm what I have said many times since I have arrived at the University of Nebraska — that I positively respect, appreciate and support our football student-athletes, coaches and staff, as we do everyone in the Husker family. We very much look forward to our upcoming bowl game and Coach Pelini continuing to lead our program in the future.” - Eichorst

Very similar situation here. (8-3) going INTO the Iowa game. Potential (8-4) coming out and when we'll know. 9 wins would actually be an improvement from last years evaluation.

The media will ride the department like a rented mule if he doesn't make comment until after the bowl game. Major distraction.

That's the problem though. He would räher wait until after the bowl game to make any statement or evaluation. He only did it last year after the Iowa game to try to lower the flames. If we are going to make a change then I fear it won't be until after the bowl game and by then it will be too late.

It's only Sunday afternoon. The flames will surly be hot tomorrow morning. He obviously won't comment until after the Iowa game, but he's already led by example. He's set the bar at the last 'regular season' game.

If he wins the Iowa game, Bo's shown improvement (9-3) over last season's (8-4) (at that particular point) and will likely be retained through next season regardless of bowl outcome.

If he loses he will have gone sideways at worst and that's not improvement considering last season there were some excuses to be made.

Dr. Tom went for years losing to Switzer. Yes 5 years getting his ass kicked. Yes there were some real blow outs. He did something about it though. He switched to the option offense and he perfected it. And we all know the rest of the story.

He ended the season ranked every year, top 15 24 out of 25. Did it with class and did it with honor.

Yeah there were some frustrating years. Switzer owned him, but we always held our heads high, nothing like now.

I understand the precident is now set but last year he never wanted to make any comment until after the bowl game. That was his rule. He was pushed into breaking that rule last year.

Question, why do some people moan about Tom Osborne as AD?

It seems I have read from at least four different Nebraska posters about Tom Osborne being a bad AD.

He hand picked Solich, OK, he wasn't AD but it was almost the same thing. Was it great? No but better than what happened.

He picked Pelini. Probably the only coach that would have taken the job with the fewest restrictions. Pelini came in and turned around the SP/BC/KC fiasco.

He hired Tim Miles as basketball coach.

He hired Darin Erstad as baseball coach.

I am guessing he hired some other coaches on the ladies side that are doing pretty good.

I really don't get why people make the snide remarks about Osborne. I think he did a fine job.

Pelini's seat isn't hot.

Eichorst was impressed by a 4 point loss to a top 25 team.

We came up 1 yard and a fumble short of winning in his eyes.

50/50 chance?

Just know Bo isn't the answer and am tired of waiting. Hopefully they make the right choice.

Pelini's not a terrible coach. I do think winning the division will be sporadic though. That's where many have lost their faith. This division isn't that strong to be 3rd tier in it. It's where they finished last season with Michigan St replacing Wisconsin.

On pure record, Nebraska finished last season in a tie for 4th overall to a team that beat them. So really 5th by 1/2 game. Matching that is the best they can do this season if they beat Iowa.

Lose to Iowa and they'll be 5th overall and potentially tied there with Maryland if they beat Rutgers. That would be a legit tie because the two didn't play.

4th overall and then 4th or 5th overall in the Big 10 in back to back seasons. Years 6 and 7 of the process.

Steve Taylor claims that Bo will be here next year and we will for certain see changes in the staff.

He more or less stated that he knows this information.

No, he's not terrible. But I don't want to be "not terrible". Be great or be terrible. If we're terrible I could spend a whole lot more time hating the Bears.

Does he qualify as having "expertise" of the game?

Cuz those without aren't supposed to see anything wrong.

Let's just say that Bo is done at Nebraska. Whether it is by choice or by force doesn't matter. Does anyone have faith in Eichorst to hire what is hopefully the right guy. This is a guy that has only hired 1 head coach in his AD career and that was the basketball coach at Miami. Sure he may have sat in on meetings as an associate AD to hire coaches but it is different when you are "the guy".

Does anyone have faith in Eichorst?
--------
I am sure there will be plenty of help Eichorst can rely on. Any mor many ADs make the hiring of a coach a joint decision rather than relying solely on the Ad. Nothing wrong with that. So, I don't think he'll be "the guy". He may be the guy out front that makes the announcement but I seriously doubt the whole decision is going to fall on his shoulders. Far too much at stake.

You mad?

I can't wait to tell you all to eat shit after the Huskers beat the fuck out of Wisconsin.

^^^^ditto

It's not my fault you didn't get to tell me to eat shit. It's nobody's fault on this here board.

The sad part is, if they do light 'em up we'd have to spend the next week or so on here listening to the negative "fans" spew venom about how it is a weak Wisky team and it still is not a quality win... yadda yadda yadda. You know the type.

I bet you'd take that now, huh?

I'm peachy fucking keen.

The reason Eichorst was hired was because he keeps his mouth shut.

The honest truth is, we are the only ones concerned about Nebraska's future. These consistent 9-10 win seasons are just enough to keep the money rolling in and the fans clinging to "hope" that we're gonna turn the corner.

Pelini is nowhere near the hot seat. This is just a fact.

I don't think he is fired but I do think he will have to make some changes in staff. If he does that or leaves remains to be seen.
