cant. you can only extend guys in the year before they hit free agency. they have to wait til next season

barring a 100+ point season this year and being a hart trophy finalist, i think a 7 mill AAV will get it done. if it takes 8.5 though, i still do it

I thought that they could extend anytime, it just doesn't go into effect until the previous deal expires. Learning something new everyday.

The Yotes have lost a lot of depth at forward this summer. Doan should go somewhere else. They aren't going to be anywhere near the team they were last year.

they should, but I don't know if they will.

I don't think the canucks will be highest bidder for him if he hits UFA.
the last contract ($2m per for 4 years; 35+26+28 goals over the first three years of it) was for the team, the next contract will be for him.

they should consider a career deal for Edler, too.
(caveat: i am assuming the brain-farts will disappear out of his game, but the talent will remain)
