Both players signed for higher AAVs than I said they would be worth, so I'm glad the Penguins missed out, because I did not want them to match those offers.

I would love Knuble or Doan, though. :thumb:

Or both.

I think that even though the Wild overpaid on Suter, this was still a good move for them signing both guys. First of all, while it hasn't turned them into instant Cup contenders, it HAS put them in the running for the playoffs for the first time in a long time, and as somebody already mentioned, 2-3 playoff games a year will go a LONG way towards offsetting that kind of spending, which is always a major concern for smaller market teams. Second, these contracts give them a bit of respectability among other free agents. Granted, they can't AFFORD any more free agents until 2014-15, but they have a rather decent farm system coming up (it helps when you never make the playoffs and always get to draft well), so they'll be able to take advantage of RFA contracts and I'm actually thinking in 2 years they could have an actual competitor in this state, the likes of which they haven't seen since 1992. And thirdly - and this is the big one - there is a HUGE chance for the Wild to increase their local market share. As I mentioned in the actual Parisuter signing thread, nobody really talks about the Wild here. There are plenty of folks who love hockey, but it's all high school or college level. At the professional level, they are behind the Vikings and the Twins, two teams who have competed for the first choice in their respective drafts the last few years. If the Wild can make the playoffs this year and build on that success going forward, they could grab a lot of those fans from those underperforming teams and build the franchise a whole bunch, and equally essential they can retain those fans who are fatigued by the clubs' recent mediocrity. That's why I think this is a coup for the Wild. They won't win the Cup this year, absolutely no chance. But they jumped light-years ahead in their rebuilding strategy.

If they weren't already....I would put them into the category of instant cup contenders. Legit team.

Well at least it is over and not too surprised they both went to the Wild.

Okay, new Flames plan (with two steps - pay attention, Feaster)

Step 1. Sign Matt Carle
Step 2. Trade Jay Bouwmeester for Valteri Filppula

Get it done, Jay.

That's crap. He signed Marty, Hedberg & Salvador. He showed Parise they were keeping the team together.

Meanwhile in L.I. Garth is working the BBQ at Chuck's 4th of July Bash. All the phones are OFF THE HOOK!!
