Wait, Darkstone is a scientist not a mathematician. I don't care how much they overlap, you're either one or the other.

He got the big bucks because he can make saves with his back to the shooter.

That is definitely too much money for Price. The market is set for a goalie of his caliber around $5 million/per...

@coreypronman
Price needs to perform at roughly a .920 sv% annually at current cap levels to break even value on a 6.5 cap hit.

either way, every new contract makes Luongo's $5.3m look more attractive :D

I am still somewhat stunned by the Tootoo / Detroit signing.
who do they have that is going to clean up all of the shit that he starts?

he will effectively piss off a team, and that team will take it out on Datsyuk / Zetterberg
a thee year deal, to boot. that one's a head-shaker.

Tootoo was a player I had hoped the Isles would consider signing. He would have made their 4th line with Matt Martin a lot of fun to watch, but not at that price. To be honest I was actually more surprised with Montreal giving Prust 2.5M per for 4 years. That deal is a head scratcher as well.

If anything, I respect Parise more for taking a few days to make up his mind. It's a major decision to make - where can I win, what organization do I want to be a part of, what players do I fit with now and how will the organization put the tools around me I need to flourish, where do I want to live for the next decade or so, etc. Smart to give that a few days to breathe.

Patience is a valuable commodity these days.

yeah, the Prust thing is a similar deal (length of deal, anyways).
at least Prust will stand up for other guys, so you can see how that can benefit a smaller team like Mtl.
Tootoo just starts shit and then picks his spots. that generally leaves a mess to be sorted out by others. I don't see Detroit as a style of team that would appreciate that very much.

I understand wanting to talk things over with his family, but he should have called the press conference off if he didn't have anything to say.

Lets see do I want to play with my buddy Sid or Giroux? Do I want to stay with the Devils? The Hawks have some serious talent up front that could be fun.

Minny is home.

Yeah I realize it's a difficult decision, but he has to have all the info he needs by now. Just make up your mind Zach.

yeah, i don't get the MUST SIGN TODAY ZOMG!!!!!!!! mentality.
they risk for him is, teams make other arrangements and drop out of the running.
however, he's a fairly unique in the UFA class, so that's not as much of a threat this year
(perhaps if one team lands Suter their budget is blown for him)

where are you playing your career? geez - let him take a couple of days.
downside is, other players / teams may be waiting to make other decisions based on where he goes.
not fair to them if he drags it out unnecessarily, but no need for NOW NOW NOW pressure.

How dare Parise not rush the most important decision of his life in order to humor the media and us SportsHoopla folks that were bored at work. And how dare he not announce where he was signing despite the fact he never stated he would be announcing where he was signing. Asshole.

Wait until the fans boo him in the first Habs pre-season game...

Carey will just tell them to chill out.

I like the signing, I guess it could have been for less but after Rinne's contract last year they knew it was going to be costly. Not that his numbers are as good as Pekka's.

I agree, and that really doesn't into Detroit's system. They aren't afraid to hit but they don't really fight all that often. It will be interesting to see who has to answer the bell for Tootoo's BS.

Riveting. I understand why he's holding off...and it's really okay, because he's holding up the market really...so it's not like teams are missing out on plan B yet.

And it's not like he hasn't had time to think about the options, even before July 1. That's the nature of being UFA. "Where would I most like to play?" "What are my top five teams?". He could have just as easily sat by the phone at "home" with his family and when the agent laid out all the offers, he would have already been there to discuss.
