Sadly you missed football before free agency. Those were the days. You kept guys you wanted for a long time. Monte Coleman never gets to stay as long as he did and no way Darrell Green does. Of course the players didn't make as much money then either.I came into the fandom during the Golden Years per se. I remember Jay Schroeder as the QB of the first Skins game I watched. I have Christmas pictures of me getting sweatshirts and jerseys. I wore my Art Monk jersey until I outgrew it. I had posters of Doug Williams and Mark Rypien on my wall. ITs been a while, but I swore we made the playoffs each year. My hero was Earnest Byner growning up.
I had no clue about Snyder to be honest. He seemed like he loved the team and wanted to win. I got caught up in his bonanza of being the GM and I looked forward to the start of free agency each year. I loved bringing in all the players on the contracts. Somehow I thought we would win with proven talent. I was wrong.
I remember arguing with Goldy on the ESPN boards and fighting the trolls during the draft and free agency. TexRich, Eastbay, Asbestos, Earl Stevens, etc. I remember Gkeoka and Skinsdad, Shark, and numerous other fans posting as well. Fun times indeed...lol
I bought in to Gibbs 2.0 and thought we would turn it around. I never got on board with Zorn but I believed in Shanahan. I wanted us to be Denver 2.0. RG3 broke my heart and then the Gruden years came and went. When we hired Rivera, I knew something was wrong. I did not want the coach to also be the GM as it never works. I have been overly vocal about his tenure and have complained quite a bit obviously. Probably too much.
Then the news broke last year and that was another strike. I found it embarrassing to talk about the team to others. I had had enough of Snyder and was hoping that would be it, but it wasn't. Over the past 12 months, it has simply gotten worse and worse. I thought it would be enough for him to get the Donald Stirling treatment, but I was wrong. The latest round of testimonies was the final nail that was started on the coffin. After Goodell's testimony and additional allegations/witnesses, I made the decision that if Snyder was not removed in the near future, I would be gone. I believe that there is more to come and hope it will be the tipping point but I have my doubt. I am still holding out that the owners make a motion for dismissal. I doubt it happens but we can still hope.
Dan knows if he stalls long enough and the House switches hands that will be the end of the investigation. That is why he is stalling now. Not to mention our legislators are famous for putting on these dog and pony shows and then doing nothing.
