The texts prove nothing since Belichick doesn't work for the Giants. But it does show that others in the NFL thought Daboll had it locked up already.

I do feel for these black coaches who are jerked around with these token interviews. As someone who hires people, sometimes you do have to conduct a certain number of interviews, including with minority candidates, just to check the boxes, even if you know who you really want. So the league created this as much as any team frankly.

I have the perfect solution.

Giants will inform Daboll that they rescind the offer and hire Flores on a one year test deal.

Daboll takes the Patriots OC position.

Flores gets fired after the 2022 season and becomes the Patriots DC and Daboll gets the HC job of the Giants.

Chad O'Shea is hired as the Ass[t OC and gets the IC position after Daboll leaves.

Everyone is happy.

So A) NFL probably cuts a huge check to shut him up B) He probably cost himself a future NFL HC job C) I can see how he'd be pissed, interviewing for a job you already know was given to someone and you're just the token guy to fill the Rooney rule, yeah fuck that I'd be pissed
The Rooney Rule was put in place to at least have teams interview a minority. Mission accomplished I guess, but if it upsets folks maybe shit can the Rooney Rule, especially if it leads to lawsuits.

I always thought the Rooney rule was very flawed in this regard. I want to see minority hires at key positions as much as anybody but these token rules are as bad as those not hiring minorities. They just don't work, regardless of good intentions. I suppose something needed to be mandated but you can't change the hearts and minds of people through legislation.

I remember when the Lions wanted Mariucci , and knew they wanted him. The entire planet knew that who they wanted. So instead of forcing a guy to be the token interview they just hired him.

Lions got fined picks I believe, and even worse they had to be coached by Mariucci.

Oh I agree, the Rooney Rule is idiotic.

If they knew already who they planned to hire like that, but still had Flores still come in to make sure they meet their diversity quota that is a significant issue.
Why is it a significant issue? Maybe with the rule itself?

Mostly for the rule, if you are altering hiring practices for the sole purpose of equality, and all it does it turns candidates into token interviews it seems like an issue to me.

But the NFL are the ones forcing teams interview minority candidates. Yes I think everyone should be given a fair shot but if you really take to a guy and he blows you away, it’s not your fault the NFL makes you interview more people to fill their quota.

Would be fantastic if he sued the pants off the NFL and won lots of money. Turn their racist Rooney Rule on its head.

It is an issue for sure. As I said, the intention may have been noble but the implimentation is so flawed that this is what it has become. Tokenism to me is just another form of racism that is hidden.
