I get a vibe Denver likes Hampton too.

I just hope it happens. Hopefully NFL teams aren't reading the hoop!. ;)

I think so much depends on how high Jeanty goes. If he goes 6 to the Raiders then you might see a team panic about how early RB went. If Jeanty doesn't go until say pick 12 with the Cowboys then maybe we see Hampton make it all the way. Tough to tell right now. A lot of teams needing RB but could also see teams look at the depth and say worth getting another position first then circling back to RB.

As of right now I would bet each of these teams take at least 1 RB in the draft...Carolina, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Houston, KC, LV, LAC, Minnesota, New Orleans, Pitt, and Washington. Others just because of the value of the player could get in but those are the ones I can almost guarantee will draft one.

Doesn’t at all mean they won’t take a RB but I was a little surprised KC re-signed Hunt and signed Mitchell. One made sense I figured they would draft a RB and keep that 3rd rb spot more open but Mitchell will probably get hurt in camp anyway. ;)

reviewing NFL.com for draft grades a lot of running backs around this 6.33 grade , a plus starter.Jeanty came in at 7.1.

using nfl.com may not be perfect but it provides a consistent grading scale.

point being i think we can wait on RB and get a same type runner maybe through the middle of the 3rd

unless Payton wants to trade up for a joker

I and others have posted about the metric or a main one he uses to rank prospects, but for the life of me I can't recall what it was now.

This was interesting:
“Omarion Hampton is a RB prospect in the 2025 draft class. He scored an unofficial 9.93 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 14 out of 1909 RB from 1987 to 2025.”

It seems if I remember correctly George Paton has drafted guys with pretty high RAS scores.

i think Paton looks
at RAS scores later in the draft. i’d used RAS as a last resort tie breaker in the first couple rounds but tape first and foremost early.
RAS is good for late 3 round+

We can wait and get a RB without a doubt. There are about 20 good RB's in this draft.

But, we can't wait around and get Omarion Hampton, Henderson, Kaleb Johnson, Judkins in this draft.

We need a dog. We have what we need behind the dog.

There are too many RBs in this draft to panic draft anyone. The unknown is what Payton is actually looking for. Is he looking for a true "Joker" type like Reggie Bush or Alvin Kamara? Or is he looking for a bell-cow type like Mark Ingram?

The best part of this draft is that it is LOADED in all the spots we need on offense. Payton and Paton can draft a joker RB and a traditional TE or a joker TE and a traditional back. Or 2 jokers.

Some of my favorites that haven't been talked about as much:

1. Jaydon Blue - Texas - Reminds me of a slightly bigger, and slightly faster Jaleel McLaughlin. He needs to pack on a few more lbs to run inside BUT he does run hard. Doesn't break many tackles but gets to the edge. He could definitely be an option as a joker with his receiving abilities.

2. Brashard Smith—SMU—I know he is a favorite of some, but this year, he reminds me of Marvin Mims. Smith was SMU's only real weapon this past year so he always had the attention on him. He was the leading rusher(1,332 yard, 14 TDs, 5.7YPC) and the next guy had 303 yard, 5 TDs on 4.1YPC. Smith also tied for 2nd on the team in receptions(39 for 327 yard and 4 more TDs). He is not Kamara but he could be Kamara-lite.

3. RJ Harvey - UCF - True story, his lowest YPC this season was against Florida. He averaged 4.7 YPC that game. Also a true story, he had a run of at least 13 yards in EVERY GAME this year. He had a run of at least 23 yards in 10/12 games this year. This is Jeanty-type stuff in the 3rd round. He's old though. :)

Agree- Don't need to panic at RB... We will have plenty of opportunity to draft one but we can't pass on a elite one if the draft shapes up that way.

We have talked about Blue and Smith a lot here. Harvey was a very productive college RB.

Blue has been a player I have been super high on coming out of HS... Lost in a very deep RB crew at Texas. Finally had his shot with the injury to CJ Baxter this year and couldn't really stay healthy but he showed flashes of big play ability. I love him as a role player in the NFL. He is not a good pass protector like Payton wants in his starting RB. He also fumbles too much which can be fixed. He actually reminds me of a guy I REALLY liked coming out and the Broncos drafted in Tatum Bell. I think Bell is a great comparison to Blue.

Smith a former WR at Miami is a fun player. I don't think he can take a heavy load but I think he could be a nice tool for Payton to have in the shed. He would take the role of Jaleel McLaughlin if drafted. I am not opposed to Smith but would still need our bell cow. It really depends on where we would have to take him to be honest.

RJ Harvey- I like him but he isn't Hampton, Henderson, Judkins, Jeanty, Johnson so it just depends. If the value of a RB isn't there early then I would have no problem adding him in his value round. I think Harvey's upside is limited is. He is tiny at just over 5'7", 5'8" tops. He does have good pad level and can truck defenders but for a 5'8"ish RB I want to see him have more explosion and be more elusive then he is. To me he is a good depth RB on an NFL roster but not a guy you will see as a #1 RB which is what we are looking for.

I like all 3 of these guys but again you aren't really getting you true bell cow that we need at RB if you rely on any of these 3 as the only RB drafted.

In a perfect world to me we would get Hampton and then if we want another RB to sorta take over the Jaleel role as a fun type of RB, any of these 3 would make me happy.

I think Denver will take a RB early this year and the depth of it won't sway them from waiting. They like the top guys that can give them what they have been looking for since Payton has arrived in Denver. That is my gut feeling. Payton wants to run the ball in the worst way possible to open up the pass game and make Nix grow even more in year 2. Super important he gets a guy who can carry a load and pass protect. I think TreyVeon Henderson is as good of a pass protector coming out of college as I have seen in a very long time. One reason why Javonte kept his starting role last year is because while we couldn't run the ball well with him he is a very good pass protector. You better believe that Payton's #1 RB is going to be good in pass protection. After that we have a lot of options if we want to grab a run, speedy, home run style back as there are plenty of those of good value if we want to grab a 2nd RB. I have a strong feeling we like a guy like Jaydon Blue later on if we desire to draft a second RB, but I think this team is looking for something big early on at the position.

Blue is a personal favorite of mine. Smith will probably go higher then we will want to grab a second RB (if we want to grab a second RB) or heck maybe our plan is to draft two early, who knows what Paton is thinking. I just think the main need with Denver right now is a bellcow, do it all, carry the load RB... We have the guys behind that guy but that doesn't mean we won't take a "fun" RB of good value as I think there are plenty of guys in this draft that can take the Jaleel McLaughlin role. I actually think Blake Watson may pass McLaughlin up this year. Lost in all of this talk is Tyler Badie.

Keep Estime in his role though.

I never expected Trevor Etienne to run as well as he did at the combine. I think that puts him more into play if we don't go RB super early... I like Dylan Sampson but he is another RB that struggled in pass protection.

I definitely didn't mean drafting them alone...but did a very poor job of saying that. Apologies. It's been a while since I've posted on a message board, apparently. :)

Honestly, as much as I love Hampton, I think TreVeyon Henderson checks the most boxes...just not sure he is gonna last to our 2nd rounder.

All good.. You and I sorta had this same discussion on messenger... One main back, one fun dual threat home run back.

I agree on Henderson he probably checks the most boxes of any RB prospect in the all around category. I think he and Judkins both have a shot to go at the end of Round 1 to be honest. I think to the general public because Henderson split time this year with Judkins, many don't realize how good of a RB he is. If you rewind to his FR year he was headed to be an elite talent. Battled injuries his soph and jr year. Came back for his SR year knowing Judkins was coming. He saw it as an opportunity to take less carries and stay healthy going into the draft. Put up solid numbers while splitting carries in an offense that also features a ton of good pass catchers. It worked out well for him. He stayed healthy and once again put up good numbers. He is now heading into the draft process healthy.. He hadn't bee healthy since mid FR season where he was one of the most explosive back in college football.

Early in his FR season, Henderson put up 270 yards and 4 tds vs Tulsa... He then got hurt, came back, had a few other big games.

1742575245633.png

He is a better pass catcher then his stats show too. Not asked to do it a lot because OSU has so many weapons and he is such a good pass blocker in the backfield. SOPH and JR year never was healthy and still put up good numbers. Could have been even better if healthy. Zero fumbles. Great teammate, leader, great character.... If not Hampton this is the type of person/player I want going to battle with me.

This is why unless the board falls a certain way a trade back and collecting more picks is my ideal draft scenario. There seem to be a bunch of same skill set RBs that could be drafted late 1st or early 2nd like the two OSU backs

Junkins has similar stat lines. Was in for a top 30 visit.

Yup, and his first year at Ole Miss while splitting carries with Zach Evans he put up some insane stat games as well. Was hurt a lot his second year.

They sorta have a similar record. Henderson the better pass blocker but he is an elite pass protector, so hard to match him with that.

I honestly think Judkins is the guy that is climbing up my board the most. Gets a bit overshadowed by Henderson because he has the homerun threat ability, but man I think as that Mark Ingram type Judkins could really shine in this offense. If the Broncos were to trade back and pick up extra assets I wouldn't mind say we trade to the top of the 2nd round getting Henderson first then getting Judkins next in the 2nd and keeping this duo together. They compliment each others game so well.
