Gammons has had some pretty serious health issues the last few years and has scaled back with travel and workload. He hasn't been with ESPN for years

Nowadays ESPN has competition from other sources that provide much better content.

10 years ago they were probably the go-to source for sports content. I remember when I was young, I'd watch SportsCenter every day. In the last 5 years I've probably turned it on once and it's borderline cringe inducing. Nowadays there are so many different sources that specialize in whatever you're looking for that provide better content.

I'd have to imagine that their broadcasting rights are really the only thing of value they have. Even that is probably taking a hit with so many people streaming sporting events nowadays and with conference networks siphoning viewers away from them.
