ESPN is corporate garbage. Puppets for Goodell and his ilk. Ever notice how none of these giant sports media conglomerates never question the CTE myth or the rules following it?

I used to go to ESPN almost exclusively for info on the Arizona Cardinals. When Sando was covering the NFCW he actually put out decent content. However, when they decided every team needed it's own blogger the hack they got for the Cards can barely utter a sentence without tripping over his own words. Even now when I think maybe he's managed to get a bit better, years later, he still looks uncomfortable on camera and can't speak a full paragraph without stumbling.

It delights me that they are feeling a little uncomfortable.

They were great back in the day...but their greed and overreach has caught up with them it seems.

Before you know it they'll be wanting to reneg some of their contracts.

I pay $25 a month pretty much specifically for ESPN/SEC network.

Technically only $5 of that is for ESPN/SEC and I do watch the other channels I pay the $20 for. But the biggest catalyst to me cutting cable was because my cable company didn't even offer the SEC Network.

I wonder if the drop isn't from people cutting cable overall.
So you have sling? It kept melting down on me on live sporting events, so cancelled, and took cable for a year when i switched to TWC for internet (ATT DSL before).

For those who think "Fuck ESPN":

I see things like this and I have to wonder what the hell is wrong with some of you.

ESPN is the reason we get to watch as much college football as we get now. I don't know how long some people have been watching college football, but getting to watch your team in every game is a luxury that is relatively new.

I can remember when I was a kid, being in the top25 rankings meant a ton more. Not so much because of national championships and such, but because it had a LOT to do with if you had any chance of seeing your team play. If your team wasn't in the top25, then you probably didn't get to watch your team. Maybe if you live local to your team a local station might carry it, say an Iron Bowl or such. But to get nationally televised was a rarity. I listened to MANY games on the radio back in the day because it was the only option.

ESPN changed all that. These days I get to watch every Alabama game - and not just because we doing well. Even if Alabama wasn't a top team right now I still get to watch them all. Before Saban got here I still got to watch almost every game even though I lived cross country. All a result of ESPN who broadcasts almost every game.

So exactly what the hell is everyone bitching about? Because of their opinion shows? You hate ESPN because of peoples opinions? How fucking retarded is that shit. Change the fucking channel. I don't know why the hell anyone would watch that trash show "First Take", but lots of people do. If you don't like it - change the fucking channel.

I swear I live in an age with a bunch of ungrateful retards. Let's all cheer for ESPN to go bankrupt so we get 10 televised games a year and listen to everything on the radio again! All because some "expert" on TV hurt your vagina.

Well fuck that - I like ESPN and I'm damn glad they are around and have done everything they have to get sports to the level we have now.

I'm humbled that you feel that way.

I have Sling TV, I've had it a few months.

It's ok, the thing that sucks so far with sporting events is that I'm about 30 seconds to 1 minute behind. When I follow this forum in a game while watching ESPN - I'll see people say things and then I'll watch it happen.

I've read about the crap outs and hope they got it fixed. Thus far I haven't had any troubles, but I can't think of any big sporting events outside Alabama games that I've watched on it. No NCAA tourney or anything, which I would only watch if Alabama was in. ESPN carries all the bowl games so that will be a big test for me.

The main thing that pisses me off about the service is the 1 stream limit. That will ultimately be the reason I tell them to kiss my butt.

Yeah, there's definitely a delay. But it's just as bad on the watchESPN app on the XBox 1 (for me). And it will pause randomly there, too. You have to move to another station, then come back to the game you were watching. Really annoying when you miss a big play.

I'm going to give Sling another try after the Super Bowl. The problem may have been the DSL - def get better performance otherwise with TWC. I don't really watch much cable TV (I think MSNBC and Fox News just make people stupid), so it would be great if ESPN just admitted the problem, and offered its suite streaming. For pro stuff, I'm in the Panthers market, and get everything off the antenna.

I agree with your comments about what ESPN has done with expanding football coverage. When I was a kid, you had to hope that your team got picked up on an ABC regional telecast. Now, you get to see every game. Lot of millenials have no idea about this.

You're assuming this wouldn't have happened without ESPN. And for the most part, in most areas of the country, you could get local college games on local channels. Getting every college game was bound to happen. The NFL was the same way back in the day. Now there's the NFL package through Directv. If there's money to be had you can bet somebody will fill the gap.

They are losing profits. Subscriptions help drive profits. It's what the story is about.

What is there to debate?

ESPN is massively profitable.

Are we really even debating this? :noidea:
No, we're not debating that. We're debating whether their profits are down dramatically from before.

The article answers that clearly. Read it then when you come back you'll have an informed opinion.

They're wildly profitable. Period. You want us to believe that they're lying to investors? What is your point? They're losing subscribers but enjoying record profits. Facts is facts.
