ESPN fires Curt Schilling after latest controversy

Curt Schilling, a former All-Star and World Series champion pitcher who transitioned into one of ESPN's highest-profile baseball analysts, was fired from the network Wednesday, just two days after commenting on and promoting a controversial anti-transgender meme on his Facebook page.

The meme dealt with the controversial public restroom laws, which have been on ballots in states across the country throughout the past year and were most recently a topic in North Carolina. You can view the meme here.

“To be in a place where people actually believe I’m a racist or I’m transphobic says to me that something has gone horribly askew somewhere,” he told the hosts on WEEI, sounding weary and bewildered by his latest social media furor.

Schilling told WEEI: “I replied to the post. I didn’t post that.”

How many times have we seen people get fired for shit they do on Twitter ?

Not that they originally posted something, buy reposted it and then got canned.

I dumped Twitter more than a year ago.

No upside, terrible downside.

ESPN is a liberal cable network. I'm not too surprised.

It may be, but I think the overall issue here is he's being paid to represent ESPN, and does anyone reasonably think they really want a guy who seems to do nothing all day but arguing politics and insulting others on social media as their representative (which he was certainly warned about before given his prior suspension)?

He should've just taken a page out of Doug Glanville's book and stick to posting about baseball on his Twitter.

Oh I agree... Doesn't represent ESPN well at all. However, it's not like this is the first "scandal" (if you can call it one) that ESPN has had and pretty much swept it under the rug

If Curt Schilling dies I'll only feel sorry for his family. The world will be a slightly better place without that piece of human waste walking around. Fuck him.
