I see they recalled a goalie from Wheeling...Maybe it has something to do with the number of players you're permitted to have (50) between the NHL and AHL? I'm just guessing here.

I... am... baffled... like you said, there has to be a non on ice reason for this move, or it's a typo....

OK.. I think I know what's going on.

1.) No decision on Asham. So he is not on IR at the moment.
2.) TK would have to clear waivers, Tangradi does not
3.) If Asham can not play tomorrow, Wheeling is closer to Pittsburgh... does that make any sense?

It's a temporary move. I feel bad for Big Dog though, he told the family he made the team (HE was told he made the team) but apparently the Pens needed to recall a goalie (they recalled Killeen) for some reason. What ever it is...IT'S EFFED UP! Very fishy.

I feel bad for him as well... he bought I think 13 tickets and had his family fly into Pittsburgh for the game 2morrow, and now he isn't playing... but I guess, if sent to AHL, the team has to show proof that he actually went to WBS, not the case for ECHL. That's why the Pens are dealing with their ECHL instead of their AHL team, Tangradi does not have to physically report to Wheeling, but if sent to WBS, he must physically go there... if both goalies are healthy 2morrow, I guess potentially they ca recall tangradi again... he is the only forward not waiver eligible... so he lost his spot.. again, I feel bad for him and his family... maybe the Pens will make it up to him by them paying for his family to fly out next time...

It's not like he doesn't have talent. He knows he has talent and he knows he belongs. But he's the only one that can go backwards without being lost in the shuffling.

His time will be very soon..

reminds me of my favourite "fuck you Gretzky" anecdote:

Kyle Turris was set to play in his first NHL game in front of his hometown (Vancouver). He had purchased dozens and dozen of tickets, and was a very late coach's decision scratch. on a team that had absolutely zero playoff hopes, where games literally did not matter. Gretzky fucked over this kid on a whim.

Tangradi is most likely playing tomorrow. There's one of two things happening here:

1) Shero is trying to save a few bucks by not counting Tangradi against the cap for an extra day. (Cap hit calculated at noon.) After noon passes he switches Tangradi back in.

2) One of Fleury or Brent is hurting and not sure if he can dress. They bring in this Wheeling goalie just in case. If the starter is okay, Wheeling goalie is gone and Tangradi is back in. If starter isn't okay, he's put on IR and Tangradi comes back in.

The reason this is done through Wheeling is because if Tangradi is sent to WBS he would have to physically report there before he comes back to NHL. No such restriction with ECHL.

Explanation #2 seems less likely, it's a bit messy. Option #1 is just a cap space saver, and apparently Bobby Ryan was sent to the Ducks ECHL affiliate on almost every off day to save cap space. The reason all this is with Tangradi is because he's the only one who can be sent to Wheeling without having to clear any waivers.

i agree that option 2 seems messy, but if it's not that, than why call up Killeen at all? I think it may involve the Asham thing too. I dunno. It's all very confusing...but I feel like they probably would've said "Hey Eric, you've made the team, but here's the deal...you won't play first game (or will, etc.)" Not just tell him he's on the team than BAM! you're not playing. It's just odd I guess...not that we'd know the internal situation to know what they told Eric...but still.

Apparently Tangradi is playing tomorrow and it's just a procedural thing, sure it will be explained.

God we need hockey. ONE MORE DAY!

The Sharks sent Demers to Stockton (central California) last year for a couple of days instead of all the way back to Massachusetts.

This is probably the same type of move.
