How did Poe make the Pro Bowl then?

At any rate, the Redskins could take some High School DLinemen and it would be an upgrade over what we currently have. What a disaster!

He was an alternate.

Chiefs have 9 Pro Bowl alternates

Guys like Fisher, Ford, Alexander, Santos and Colquitt are definitely deserving if they make the Pro Bowl, but I’m scratching my head on the others.

Smith has not had a good season even by his standards, and Houston has only played in five games in 2016. I also feel like DL Chris Jones is more deserving as an alternate over Poe, since Jones has been one of the best defensive linemen in pass rush since Week 4.

been away a few days, but if you Missouri guys are serious -- I'm hoping he just had a bad year.
Then, I start to wonder because, Poe is surrounded by nearly elite talent in several places. CB, OLB, ILB.
hmmm, say it ain't so man.
If he was the same player he was in 2013/14, he's the most unique and valuable defender arguably in the NFL sans Watt or Donald. Back surgeries and overuse when the DL wasn't as talented looks like it may have ruined what could've been a great career. He's still decent in reality, but the contract he'll demand is likely a nonsense number that's non commensurate to his actual value. It's never a good thing when your best years as a FA came 3-4 years ago.

Interesting. The Chiefs did have some stats in run defense that were worse than the Skins.

NFL Stats: by Team Category

Some of that is age, injury and some of that is ILB being fairly weak on its own. Just the previous year in 2015 the run D accounting for context was actually pretty good. Jaye Howard and Allen Bailey went down fairly quickly and underperformed (Bailey may just be overrated as a run defender, I'd considering cutting him) and while there was some depth ala Chris Jones to keep the DL from being outright abysmal, the Chiefs still had inconsistent NT play and a liability at the other DE spot. That puts an incredible amount of pressure on the ILB's to be great (especially in so much nickel man coverage) in order to cover up for a sketchy DL. Didn't happen. It got so bad after Derrick Johnson they were trying safeties (not named Eric Berry, they liked him too much in coverage) as ILB's out of neccessity because the ILB's behind Derrick Johnson (now on IR) and Ramik Wilson (S-ILB) were either also hurt or really just ST'ers like DJ Alexander. They had a good 3rd cover safety (Sorenson) so they could still survive on pass defense, but the Run D was still a trainwreck.

Derrick Johnson is one of the more underrated Inside backers of the last several years but he's in his mid 30's, and until they started Ramik Wilson, the guy next to him on the strong side was to put it nicely, pretty terrible. Once DJ tore his achilles I think they were pretty screwed as far as contention goes.

In summation to my ramblings: Poe while not terrible right now, isn't elite and uniquely skilled anymore like he was in 2013 and 2014, but the problem remains instead of normal NT money he may dabble into top DT money. All kinds of alarm bells as a GM. I would not want to tag Poe but I know some disagree on that.

tough to argue against home team insight -- Well, Brandon Williams may be a realistic option for us.
I know he had good numbers for his "label" and Baltimore will have to make several cuts to re-sign him AND wagner. I never thought I'd see folks suggest passing on Poe, thanks for the comments
