Yeah, just like Cashman is really lucky he's got all that money to work with. . .

Yankees have the 7th highest payroll in baseball....Cashmans' best work comes when he isnt spending

Very interesting. Given how important David Ortiz was to the Red Sox back in the day and was key to their recent World Series wins, imagine how different things would have been for Boston sans Ortiz.

Or PEDs.

Oh 1918 would still be their last title

I cant think of any individual player ever more responsible for world title(s) as Ortiz

I was busting stones. I think Cashman is a highly underrated GM. I thought we'd discussed this before. A lot of people say the Yankees success is because of the money, but there are a handful of teams that have money, and the Yankees are the only one that have that type of success. They've missed the playoffs four of the last twenty-three years.

In my opinion, he's not lucky, he's good. Same with Epstein, which was kind of my point.

No Doubt, not really shitting on Theo, but Heyward/Zobrist/Lester/now Darvish........Bad run of spending there.....Dont love that Cubs team at all, said the same a month ago, mostly cause I never bought Darvish as a true Ace

What Ortiz did was friggin amazing, but there's also Keith Foulke. 2004 wouldn't have happened without Foulke.

Heyward. Lolz. That's some serious shit, huh?

Lester, though. I don't see how you can call that a clunker. 45-25, 3.33 ERA, 124 ERA+ with the Cubs. Bad ass in the '16 playoffs - NLCS MVP and a key part of a rotation that won the World Series.

I also think four games into the contract, it's a bit premature to judge the Darvish deal. I agree he's not a "true ace," but (sadly) $21MM/yr isn't "true ace money" anymore. We'll see.

At one point the Angels were spending pretty wildly and did not produce the same results as the Yankees. Actually I sit here today and ponder how Mike Scioscia still has a job?

Jokes aside, wasn't it around 2012 when he had some injury problems and it looked like he would retire only to hit a third wind? I know in 2009 he struggled as well.
