But think of it this way: . They will end up with a good position in the draft, and with Eli off the books and rookie pay scale for their QB, they will have some funds to spend on improving the team elsewhere.

And consider trading Beckham. He's useless if they can't get him the ball.

Eli looks to be done, but that team has a lot holes aside from Eli and Barkley looks like he could be a once in a generation type talent. All of this years rookie QBs, aside from Mayfield, look like projects to me. The way that team is playing, should have a shot at the best project available next year while they establish the run this season.

Not to make excuses for Eli, but I was shocked about how the whole team basically quit by halftime, including the defense. That was a pathetic effort. There is more wrong than QB in NY.

The end of Eli in N.Y.: Time for Giants to move on from Manning

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Four more years, Eli Manning predicted in the summer of 2017. He said he still loved the training, the film work, everything about being a starting NFL quarterback, and he figured he could compete at a high level until age 40.

"So I don't see it slowing down," he told ESPN.com at the time.

Yet now, at 37, it is slowing down to a grinding halt. Manning has devolved into a shadow of his two-time Super Bowl MVP self, and it was clear Thursday night to every fair-minded fan in the house that his time as the New York Giants' franchise player is coming to an end.

Actually, that time has already expired. In professional sports there is no such thing as a franchise player for a 1-5 franchise, or for a team that has lost 18 of 22 games over the past two seasons. As much as it hurts to say it about an athlete who has always carried himself with grace in the world's noisiest market, Manning's exit is no longer a question of when, but how.

Joe Montana, Troy Aikman, and Aaron fkn Rodgers couldn't win with that crap O-line.

the funny thing is he has his highest rating since 2015 and is completing a career high 68.7% of his passes.

just nothing on the ball.

It's never all on one player, but my Lord! The OFC results (points scored) just have to be better to pay a QB that kind of money.

Best QB in Giant history, but he's been in a steady decline for the last few years. Doesn't help that his GMs have done an atrocious job at building a line to give him more than 2 seconds to throw the ball.

Watching Barkley run behind that same terrible line, it's hard to say that pick was a mistake though. I guess they'll try and get that next QB with this years' top 5 pick.

Eli is not done he is a burnt offering to the football Gods for ( pick your reason ) the team quit by halftime and it was really ugly. The new coaching staff might get wiped out again after the season ends if they last that long. I cant say what to do but benching Eli is just the start. If they had held onto Webb they could have given him a 11 game interview but that ship sailed. Lauletta is not ready but he cant be worse than Eli can he ?

good luck to giants fans its going to be a long season.

Barkley appears to be a rare talent but very difficult to win with an aging QB and nobody behind him.

Honestly, I think the outpouring of support regarding Eli’s benching last year did more harm than good. Where are those people today. All it did was make managements decision to move on from him that much harder.

Eli has some shelf life left, but he has never been an elite QB. He has never been able to create offense in the absence of an effective O-line and skilled receivers/running backs. So right now he looks bad. If you threw out Barkley's and OBJ's stats and replaced them with a pedestrian RB/WR, Eli's stats would look horrific.

Long story short, he QBs a shitty offense whose shittiness is only partially his fault. Give him a quality OL and another above average receiver, and he would be an effective QB.

What’s his contract status? If he’s 20M he’s untradeable. If the giants could they should trade him and get something for him. If he truly does have shelf life left it’s only with a team that has a lot it can put around him.

If not, they may be better off releasing him and going with a bridge QB. He clearly isn’t going to be successful in this system.

That whole thing made zero sense. They benched him to start the retread Geno Smith to predictable results, and left Webb on the bench. What in the hell was the point?

I will agree that it didn’t make a ton of sense but maybe there was some plan to play Webb later in that game or a different game.

Eli had to be benched though. His play has been dreadful. Ok... maybe not for smith but he shouldn’t be playing for the giants anymore.

They are going nowhere with him and have been for quite some time now. Time to turn the page

He becomes worse than useless, because he lets his frustration affect his behavior on and off the field.

He's a great teammate when things are going good and you're winning games, though

Agreed, he needs to go ---- 2 years ago. Giants are a mess. They have 2 more wins on the schedule, they play the Redskins twice.
 Wait, are you a closet Giants fan? :noidea:

I absolutely loved having Cutler in the NFCN and wished it would never end. A true Skinz fan should love watching Eli devolve, relish the Giants crapping the bed annually and wish it could last forever...

Pretty sad too because he's a solid dude. He doesn't deserve the flack he gets from his own fans.
I bet those fools who bought the "game worn" playoff memorabilia really feel sorry for him as well.
