LOL. The Pats wont cut DA. They wont take the cap hit. Plus, he has played well. You want to replace one injury prone player (DA) with another in Nicks. That's foolish.

The cap hit isn't prohibitive at any point.

As for Edelman, I love the guy but this is his first healthy season. Hopefully this is the beginning of many.

63 games out of a possible 80, many of which were not unavailability as much as being buried on the depth chart doesn't appear to be a large injury concern to me. Last year he did miss some time, but nothing brutal.

I agree, he has taken some BIG hits this yr and bounced back up.

I don't think he's on the level of a Sherman/Revis.

Revis didn't have a great year and that's not even just because of missed time, but I see your point.

And no, he's not Richard Sherman. But this year nobody else whatsoever is on the level of Sherman, so that's not something to hold against him.

Healthy, Aqib Talib is a top 5 and maybe a top 3 CB in the NFL.

It's like Brees isn't elite. It doesn't mean he's not good, just that he's separated from that top tier.

Even when he puts up Brady- and Manning-esque numbers, has his team in contention year after year and has won the SB as the star, featured QB? I mean, Brees has been my example of the third elite QB for a very long time.

I think we might just use the word a bit differently.

Brady, Peyton, then Rodgers is three, but pretty damn close. The difference between Brees and Rodgers is significantly greater than the difference between Rodgers and Brady/Peyton IMO.

To me elite means you can be in the discussion as the best. Brees isn't in it, talib isn't in it, at WR no one but Fitz and megatron are in it, at running back AD is alone, etc. If you can't make a serious claim someone is the best, they are second tier, and as such, not elite.

Brees has been the best QB in the league some years. Talib was in that conversation for half this season, by the way. There were a number of pundits saying that he was THE best CB over the first 6-8 games this year. That discussion has fallen by the wayside, it's a different conversation now, but Talib is right there.

Brees has never been the best in the NFL. He gets more credit than he deserves.

I may be underrating talib because he has spent so much time either out or hobbled. It's hard to say what level he can consistently play at healthy when he hasn't been.

We would not be 11-4 if Talib had not "hobbled" through games.....

I'm not disputing that. I'm just talking how it affects his ranking among corners. We haven't seen all that much of him at full speed.

Yeah I think Talib getting hurt and missing the games he did has hurt us the most. I personally hope they pay him. Even if its just a 3 yr deal pay him some money. That gives some more time to Ryan and Dennard to grow which they seem to be doing quite nicely. :-)
