in today's league i think it's best to have 2 FS with great coverage skills and just solid tackling skills, especially when you consider how strong we are with our LBs in the box. Last year we had 1 true SS who was worse than some of our LBs in coverage and 1 hybrid safety who fits more as a SS. This is one of the main reasons why we got beat over the top so much.
If we get Reed hopefully Robinson, McBath, or Spillman can take Whitner's spot and provide better coverage. We also need to draft a stud FS in the draft (Eric Reid) as injury insurance and to develop.

We didn't tender McBath so it sounds like he is a goner. I'm very intrigued by Spillman at SS to be honest.

Now i'm worried about our backcourt....

we're not a place for old folks... lets not bring in the wrong side of 30 yr olds... keep it young and hungry....

Do you guys think this is for real or are the Niners putting pressure on Goldson and Reed pressuring the Ravens? Obviously, a real interest would do both, just wondering if that's incidental or the primary factor.

I really would hate to see this team get older.

Ed Reed to San Fran most likely not happening; per source, it's a smokescreen aimed at creating interest in Reed.

Doesn't surprise me as really the only link between the two is he hired the same agent that Baalke and Harbaugh used.

Then again it's from "sources" so who knows the actual truth.

Well, in a way they wouldn't since Reed probably would finish the season on IR. But seriously, I would hate bringing in Reed because he is too old and can't stay healthy.

Hurt or not he is still a stud at his age

Well yeah, I'd rather roll the dice on his health than hoping that a safety drafted pans out. I know he can still play, but the older he gets the less likely it is that he can play through injuries.
