I’d be shocked, outside a significant injury(s) to key players, if at least 3 of these 4 top ranked teams aren’t 1) in the playoffs and 2) aren’t ranked in the top 5 at seasons end. I think they run away with college football this season. Ohio and Georgia should have little trouble finding their way to the national title game in my opinion.

There is such a HUGE gap in talent from the top 4 teams and the rest of the teams next season.

Playoffs are kind of a layup for the top 4 IMO. With the expanded playoff, you likely need to have 3 losses in order to miss it. I think Ohio State and Georgia are the top 2 teams but I also don't think Texas and Oregon are that far behind them. There are also teams that could end up being contenders if some things work out for them. For example, if Michigan's new QB is legit, they're right back in that top tier.

I thought that I would annotate the list for you!

No wonder Oregon is ranked #4.

Florida probably plays the toughest schedule in the country. But let's not pretend that's why Florida is unranked and Oregon is #4.

Now that most the major players have been taken in the transfer portal and at national signing day, what do you think the top 25 will look like next year? Obviously, we still have about 2 weeks till everyone has to declare for the draft, so things may change a bit. Here is what I've seen so far, and I think a few may be too highly ranked on this list (unfortunately one of them is Michigan).

Michigan way to high

I agree. They lost way to much in the draft, as well as most their coaching staff from the last few seasons.

I think I would be happy if they sneak into the playoffs this year. Unfortunately, with their schedule, they could easily lose 4 games and it may still be considered a good season for them. Michigan fans may have to ride the high of the national championship for a few more years.

Not sure I get the appeal about a Boise State coming off an 8-6 season with losses to #UCFacts and A School That Lost To Prime, but sure.

I don't see an undefeated run, they have to go to Autzen. I'd be shocked if Oregon doesn't run them out the building.

Florida probably plays the toughest schedule in the country. But let's not pretend that's why Florida is unranked and Oregon is #4.
No offense but it's time for you to take your head out of the sand. Oregon is #4 and UF is unranked because of their schedules. Scheduling plays a BIG part in the rankings.

This is a little long but please read it!

Since 2010 Oregon has been ranked 10 years out of the 14 seasons. In those 10 ranked years, Oregon played 25 teams in the 12 Game regular seasons that were ranked and was 12-13. They played 95 unranked teams and went 91-4.

This year Oregon is slated to play 2 ranked teams, so: 12/25*2 = 1.2 wins or 1 -1 record.
This year Oregon is slated to play 10 unranked teams, so: 91/95*10 = 9.58 wins or 10-0 record
Total Oregon is expected to have 10.78 wins or to be 11-1 and ranked #4. Oregon would be in the Big Ten CCG and the CFP.

Suppose Oregon had to play UF's schedule with 8 ranked opponents and 4 unranked teams.
Against ranked teams Oregon is expected to be 12/25*8 = 3.84 wins or 4-4 record
Against unranked teams Oregon is expected to be 91/95*4 = 3.83 wins or 4-0 record
Thus Oregon would be expected have 7.67 wins or to be 8-4 and NOT ranked #4. Oregon would NOT be in the Big Ten CCG or the CFP but would be ranked somewhere.

Since 2010 Florida has been ranked 6 years out of the 14 seasons and unranked in 8 of the 14 seasons. Since we don't know what Florida is let's use all 14 years. In those 14 ranked years, Florida played 56 teams in the 12 Game regular seasons that were ranked and was 15-41. They played 107 unranked teams and went 85-22.

This year Florida is slated to play 8 ranked teams, so: 15/56*8 = 2.14 wins or 2 -6 record.
This year Florida is slated to play 4 unranked teams, so: 85/107*4 = 3.18 wins or 3-1 record
Total Florida is expected to have 5.32 wins or to be 5-7 and unranked. Florida would not be in the SEC CCG, the CFP, or even a bowl game!

Suppose Florida had to play Oregon's schedule with 2 ranked opponents and 10 unranked teams.
Against ranked teams Florida is expected to be 15/56*2 = 0.536 wins or 1-1 record
Against unranked teams Florida is expected to be 85/107*10 = 7.94 wins or 8-2 record
Thus Florida would be expected have 8.48 wins or to be 8-4 and have the same record as Oregon! Florida would not be in the SEC CCG or the CFP, but, would go to a bowl game!

Would Florida be ranked? I hope NOT. An 8-4 record vs 8 ranked opponents is WAY better than 8-4 vs 2 ranked teams!

Florida isn't ranked because they stunk last year. Yeah, they played a tough schedule, but they also lost to 6 loss UK, 8 loss Arkansas and lost to Utah(a team Oregon beat by 30)

Yes, but in 2023 they managed to beat #17 Tennessee (29-16), in 2022 they beat #10 Utah (29-26) and #23 South Carolina (38-6), and in 2014 they beat #9 Georgia all while UNRANKED!!!

It is a fact that Florida lost to those teams last year, while going 5-7 overall. My opinion was they stank, because of those facts. And they are rightfully not ranked in these preseason polls, while Oregon is. Florida hasn't been good since Covid.

Look UF only had 2 "bad" loses last year. UF finished in the Massey Composite at #59. The loses to #29 Utah (at Utah, altitude), #2 Georgia, #12 LSU, #9 Missouri, and #8 FSU were understandable. The lose at #41 Kentucky wasn't that bad but the lose Arkansas at home was just putrid. The only win of note was vs #17 Tennessee although the win at #61 South Carolina was ok. Wins Vandy, Charlotte, and McNeese State - yawn.

As for Oregon: Their only Regular season loss was to #2 Washington. Their 11 wins were against: (+8-5) Oregon State, (+8-5) Southern California, (+8-5) Utah, (+6-7) California, (+5-7) Washington State, (+4-8) Colorado, (+3-9) Arizona State, (+3-9) Stanford, (+5-8) Hawaii, and Portland State. So Oregon never beat a team with fewer than FIVE loses last year.

A couple things can be true:

Florida stank last year, and played a tough schedule. Oregon was very good and played an easier schedule.

Florida projects to stink again next year, and plays a tough schedule. Oregon projects to be very good and plays an easier schedule.
