Chip Kelly is either gonna sale off into the sunset or crash into a iceberg and go down with the ship and I just don't see a happy ending happening for him

well he is 33 years old and is a stop gap at this point . i realize he is good but his age is a huge factor

Well no one is saying we should get him. He's good, why wouldn't the eagles use him for another season or two? It literally looks like they are tanking. (I know, there's no tanking in the nfl)

Pats and seahawks should fear the all mighty eagles this year. Chip is smarter than everyone. Period.

 this surprises me, given his age and the money he's looking for.

I could see the Gnats stepping into the ring more than us.

Eagles Release Evan Mathis overthecap.com Readability

Excerpt

Releasing Mathis will save the Eagles $5.5 million this season. They will carry $1 million in dead money charges in 2015 and 2016. Mathis’ salary this season ranked eighth in the NFL among active players that we have categorized as left guard. He is now a free agent and free to sign with any team. I would guess his asking price will be around $6.5 million such that he earns his Eagles contract plus whatever raise he felt he was set to earn.

That said I would imagine the Eagles tried shopping him around at the $5.5 million price tag and found no takers so it may be a lesser market than expected if that is the case. Last year the Patriots were able to pawn off Logan Mankins and a $6.25 million salary to the Buccaneers, but may not have had any other takers besides Tampa, who was desperate for a lineman. The Eagles may have had better luck in the preseason to move him, but it would have been a messy situation to wait that long on a hope someone would bite when nobody had thus far.

Very happy to read the Eagles dumped one of the top 3 guards in the league in a cap move. Wonder if Kyle Dunlap will be back in their plans.

With that said I don't want us chasing after a 33 year old whose best years are behind him

Should the Redskins pursue Evan Mathis? | Comcast SportsNet Washington

more on this . i agree we shouldnt sign him . he is a good player dont get me wrong but at 34 , ehhh and certainly not for 6 mil . i think tandler and others are wrong . he wont get that on the open market but lavou should play better in the power scheme and if you sign mathis you are saying long isnt the guy

Offer him a vet minimum with a chance to compete to start. He doesn't take it? Fine. He DOES take it? He becomes either a solid starter for a one year rental, or an excellent backup.
