The reason why Chip got fired is that he refused to give up his GM duties. That's crazy after what Chip put his organization through. He still had a shot of being the coach next year. The bottom line is that its Luries fault for giving Chip GM duties in the first place.

I don't think this is correct. Lurie fired him outright. There was no discussion about him staying on as HC only. The report from NFL network said it was a 10 minute meeting. In an interview last night, chip said he would gladly relinquish his GM role in Philly or anywhere else.

All I can say is that's not what he said last night.

Eagles owner Jeff Lurie will be holding a press conference at 12:30 ET / 9:30 PT to discuss Chipper's firing and moves going forward. One potential move is re-installing Howie Roseman as the GM. If so, that'll cause another circus-like atmosphere in Philly since Roseman's record hasn't be that up too snuff.

your never get the truth at PC's. Why would the eagles fire him now? Its b/c he wouldn't give up GM duties. IMO

Why would that necessitate an immediate firing?

Lurie just (publicly) shot that down at his presser, which is still going on. He said he didn't offer Chip to give up that role. Of course, this is Lurie's version of things. Let's see if there's any blowback from Chipper or any of those dreaded 'sources.'

Seems the decision to 'release' (Lurie did not use the word fire) Chip was a culmination of multiple factors. I'd guess his intractability/stubbornness as well as ability to get along with people/players played a big role.

I did read that there was a hurdle regarding changing Chips role in personnel decisions (rumor) - semantics but recently Chips comments regarding not being the GM had to annoy Lurie at best.

Doesn't rule out that his personnel decisions weren't a big part of the reason for Chips being released.

Dang, Cali, I can't see any of your non-text entries. Arrghhh!!!!

On another note, if Shurmur doesn't stay in Philly, Bradford is probably gone. If so, wonder who the Eagles next QB will be? Sanchez? Please. They, of course, might reach for one in the draft depending on their draft position -- or willingness to move up (and potentially give up prized draft picks or players in the process). Remember that they don't have a second rounder this year.

Also: Cardale Jones, as expected, just declared for the draft.

Bummer about you not seeing the tweets.

Basically Lurie said the main reason for letting Chip go was ' the lack of progress and trajectory we were going'

And that the best approach is collaborative approach between player personnel and coaching going ahead.
