I missed the part on the $5.5M guaranteed on first read of this article earlier. So, if I am learning my cap skills well JP goes from a $10.66M cap # to a $5.5M cap #?
No, it goes to 10.

But we can save 4.5 if he retires or gets hurt in camp or something.

Wow ... there is some serious money being thrown around in free agency this year!

Do we have enough to sign DJax? If so, would we be able to sign other needs? Personally, I would rather get a RB (Josh Jackson) in the draft and spend money on a WR. I think this draft is ripe with DL and RB. We definitely need a LB.

Landon Collins got $84M ($45M guaranteed) from the Redskins... good player but damn that's crazy!

HTTR forever in mediocrity! Long live Dan Snyder and Bruce Allen!

Collins is a great in the box S/LB hybrid, but for a Safety who's a liability in coverage ... that's a massive contract.

This is the deepest WR class I can remember and I've been following the draft forever. It is a below average RB class though ...

Agree Rey! I think we draft a stud, to groom behind Malcolm and McLeod. Maddox also can play S if necessary.

I dont think its a below average RB class but just no stars IMO. I'd guess no first round RBs this year but seems very deep to me. Lots of above average RBs

Looks like the Brandon Graham deal will only be a 3.5-4 mil cap hit this year. After today's events we still have a little over 15 mil in cap space (without factoring in the 7 needed for the draft). If Aggie is released/traded it would leave us with over 17 mil in space for free agents (actually around 14 since we need to leave around 3 in reserve during the season).

I see his contract is up.

We're never in cap hell ... despite what clueless media outlets keep putting out there. He's been great at moving money around for years yet always keeping us competitive. Money comes off the books every season ... he doesn't just push money into future years blindly.

This year was our year where we were in cap hell with no way out ... I even heard that we may not even have enough cap available to draft; yet here we are creating cap space and signing players just like everyone else. Having a great GM is a wonderful thing.

again, you can ALWAYS push some of it, But even this year, your skirting, eventually it will catch up, its happened to the steelers, the pats before, the notoriously best cap managements teams for a long long time. I mean good luck, but it will happen

The teams that are good at it though like the Steelers, Pats and Eagles always find a way to stay competitive despite moving money around. If it were your every year cellar dwellers I could understand the worry ... but there's a handful of GM's in the league who seem to always be ahead of the game. For example .. the Brandon Graham contract is basically a two year deal when you really look at it ... super low 1st year cap hit with the 2nd year being the worst at 13.375 (still not horrible for a top DE). In year 3 we can cut ties with the remaining bonus hit hitting us yet still having a cap savings of 2.875 if we cut him as his Base is 13 mil.

I guess then, that Colbert is not as good as Howie at being a creative GM.
