Eh, he probably saw the Bengals drafted the starter at RG...and with other guys younger already in the system, he was looking up at the depth chart, and decided to simply call it a career.

This. It isn't like we signed him to a big contract and signing bonus. We signed him to a one year deal and was giving him a shot in training camp. He was never going to unseat Zeitler so it does not really matter, he was depth, nothing more. Same as the guy from Tampa Bay will be we just signed off the street. He will come in to push for backup depth.

*shakes head* Some people want to over react at anything to just get a response.

Having read the article on the enquirer, it also sounds like all the head stuff and concussions and all that...really had an affect on this decision as well. He said after 8 years, he wanted to be able to walk away from the game and not risk his future ability to do things just to stay in the NFL another year or two.

Must be nice to retire in your early 30's with a ton of dough in the bank. Too bad most these guys are so unsavvy that they file bankrupsy in a couple years. Smart move by Bell though to not further injuring his brain. Cant really fault the guy for that.

OR he figured that since the Bengals were the only team to give him an offer, he must really really suck and not deserve to be in the NFL.

Hate your team that much huh? By even saying that, you have exceeded your self proclaimed "realist" statue and gone straight into pessimistic hater mode. You do realize that we have made the playoffs 2 of the last 3 years, and 3 of the last 6 years. Granted, we have not won a game, but we have made it there which is an accomplishment, and twice as AFC North Champions over the mighty Steelers and Ravens.

You might want to try a new approach to your excuse of being a hater now, because being a "realist" is now off the table. We all know you are no realist by your last statement.

LOL are you that much of a homer that you cannot even differentiate a tongue-in-cheek response from a factual response?

p.s. I am not a statue.

Don't call out the front office for being shitty. You're a cancer to the team (and board) if you do that.

Hoenstly I dont see what all the fuss is about. the guy was clearly brought in for depth. he was coming off an injury and signed for the league minimum. It's not like the Antionio Bryant debacle. I really dont have an issue with the Bengals taking a flyer on the guy and I dont ahve an issue with Bell retiring.

I have no issues with either. Bengals clearly signed him for depth. He decided after all the ongoing stuff with head/concussions that being a back-up and having already played 8 years wasn't worth any additional risk. He's obviously a smart guy, and saved up his money and didn't blow it all...so...good job by him.

Best of luck.

I do not mind someone being a "realist". What I do care about is them proclaiming to be a fan of this team and never having ANYTHING good to say about the team either.

If anyone trys to say anything positive in any way, there is Flamingay to point out all the negative associated with the organization whether it has to do with the current topic or not.

I dare ya Flaming...say 3 good things about this team without naming a specific player. Go for it. See if you can.

I'm not even sure YOU would be able to name 3 good things about this team without naming a specific player.

You are a homer and you dance to Brownie boys tunes, so you think things like hiring more scouts this offseason is something to give this organization accolades for. But when you put things in their proper perspective - the Bengals still have one of the smallest scouting departments in the league - you realize it really isn't anything to be proud of. It's people like you that allow him to continue doing what he does. Shame on you!

p.s. how sad for you. Even after I clearly stated my comment was tongue-in-cheek, you couldn't bear the embarrassment and you come running back with that drivel to try to save face. You over-reacted, get over it.

I didn't over-react, I want you to name 3 fucking things you wuss. Man up, say something good about your team damn it. Dare to proud of some aspect of YOUR supposed team. You can do it. Appreciate something about it.

1) Our coordinators and coaching staffs have really improved over the last 4 years. I am very happy with teh direction the coaching is going. I can't stand to watch Marvin in a press conference, and I can't always stand some of his game management abilities, I think his coordinators and coaching staff is grade A. We do a very nice job with the personnell we have to caoch.

2) The team has gotten considerably young, more athletic and we are still very competitive even in the toughest division in football, IMO. It has been a really nice run in the draft the past 2 to 3 years here. The talented youth we have on this team should excite even the average fan and give them some hope for the near future.

3) Mike Brown appears to be letting coaches and scouts influence the draft considerably more. It has been quite evident there has been a change in the drafting philosophy. Plus, we have been "slowly" adding more scouts. It may still be one of the smallest scouting staffs in the league, but it is slowly growing, and it is paying off at every turn.

There are my three things dumbass. Now let's hear 3 from you. There has to be 3 things a fan of this team is happy about, besides specific players. Let's hear it. I was not over-reacting, and I was able to name my 3. So you up for the the challenge or are you going to slink away like a coward. Afraid someone my claim you actually like the Bengals, and you are a fan? Man, wouldn't that be fucking embarrassing for you. A Bengals fan...fuck, what could be worse than that???

1) I can get in line with the coordinators. If there's anything you like about Marvin, you're a homer.

2) Whoopdee damn doo, we're rebuilding again. That is not a positive nor a negative. It just is what it is. Our previous run with Carson/Chad et. al failed. Now we're trying again. Show me something before I commend you for it.

3) Struggling to find a 3rd thing? This is exactly what I said you'd commend them for. Sorry not buying it. Having 5 less scouts than the rest of the league instead of 6 less scouts is nothing to celebrate. EVERY decent owner in the league allows the scouting department do their job and "influence the draft". I am not going to give credit to Brown or the organization for being 20 years behind the norm.

By my count, you still have 2 more to name.
