Slicker than shit where I came from.

Narrowly avoided being a part of a huge pile up somewhere around 90th and maple.

Might be melting off a bit now, but beware.

Yep. Took me 25 minutes to go what usually takes 10.

I had no problems going because I have 4 wheel drive. People with front wheel drive were fine, but people with rear wheel drive only couldn't get up the hills and were backing up traffic behind them.

I was looking at buying a Cadillac last week. I passed because it was rear wheel drive. I wish they made the bigger cars in front wheel drive. Or all wheel would be even better.

I head out at 6:30 and get to work at 7 every day. Today I got here at 7:30.

Maple was a bitch. And yea the rear wheel drive cars were causing much of the problems. There was a guy in a mustang I felt bad for. At the top of a hill and he couldn't quite get over the hump, so we all sat there and watched him bark off half of his tread before he finally gave up.

I have a front wheel drive car but even then going down hill was a bitch. That pile up I avoided I didn't see until I came up over the top of the hill and then suddenly saw cop cars and other vehicles strung out all across the road. There was a 4-wheel drive extended cab with its front tires up on the median and the back half sticking out in my lane. Just then this girl driving an AWD crossover type vehicle slammed on her breaks sending her into a whirl wind. She ended up sideways on the other side of the road.

There was nothing I could do at that point, I was heading downhill straight for the pile with momentum. I used my brakes and gas a little to help me fish tail through it and I got lucky. Just missed the pickup and also the back of a cop car.

There are some really bad drivers out there though. I tell ye what.

There really wasn't much snow at all.

Solid ice. It must have rained for a period of time last night and froze.

They definitely didn't have the roads salted, so they were not expecting it apparently.

It snowed a couple inches here overnight. Roads were icy/snowy this morning, but are much better now.

My issue was I have to drive all the way downtown to get to work. From where I'm at it's like a 30 minute drive on a good day, and you're essentially working your way downhill the whole way.

Going downhill on black ice is no bueno.

People I work with who came in from the Bellevue area said they didn't have nearly as slick of a trip.

Ground temperature melted it on contact and then it froze to a sheet of ice.

Definite a fail on the prep.

They either under-estimated the amount of precipitation, or it was Jean's budget cuts gambling on materials, wear and tear, and paying over-time.

I'd go with the later. Get the point?

We didn't get any prep here in Lincoln either, so either they underestimated or we have the same budget cuts as Omaha

I took Blondo down to 87th and it was slow going.

Probably 5 different places where traffic was backed up on a hill with people going around someone with rear wheel drive who couldn't get past the peak of a hill. Traffic lights on hills totally screw those folks.

When we were kids, my brother and I used to make a ton pushing cars up hills after snows. Everybody had rear wheel drive back then.

Jean's the first republican Mayor of Omaha in 12 years. She's been rasslin' with the police and fire unions since she got into office.

I know...I'm just saying that for whatever reason it seems like the ice caught everyone with their pants down, not just Omaha.

Yeah. I think they were just expecting a light dusting.

Yes, it was slick here in Bellevue, but here in God's country they do a great job on the roads unlike in Omaha. My daughter would laugh at the complaints as she just returned home from Northern Minnesota and said she was glad that we didn't have it as bad as she saw up there.

Yea I heard they got a foot of snow up there in Minny.

To be honest though, if I would have walked outside today and saw a foot of blowing snow on the ground, I would have just called into work and told them they wouldn't be seeing me with my car that sits 10 inches off the ground.

The black ice though.......you can't see it en sech. It's not until you're out on the road driving when all of a sudden you have no traction. Out here in West O it is horrible because of all the hills.

West O is hard to drive when it's dry because of all the traffic, it must have been absolute crap to drive this morning.
