Da'Ron Payne got a 4 year, 90 m dollar deal today from the Commanders. That is 22.5 m per year.

Jones has about a .0001% chance to come back here, IMO.

Should have tagged him and at least traded him if we didn't want to lock him up for what he is worth on the market.
how does a tag and trade
work? seems like a lot of trust on the other team to make the trade.

He’d have to be under contract to trade him

last tag and trade was??

@Draft Crazy @Mingo Not tagging all Bronco fans but all are welcome to respond. I just wanted to hear your opinons on Jones.
The Browns have a huge need at IDL, have for years and Woods refused to make this a need for many years. Now with Schwartz in CLE he always loves his DL and IDL inparticular.
What are your thoughts on Jones? Next to Garrett will help? Is he worth $16-$20M/year. I just think that is too much for him and for the Browns. Watched him a ton at Ohio St but I will be honest, not much in
Any team that has the money Dre'Mont Jones is worth it. He can change a game and take it over. The Broncos have just been caught short in how the dollars are distributed.

Browns will be restructuring contracts but they only have the ability to give a big contract to one of their needs. S, IDL or EDGE. They also need a speed WR. I would definitely spend on IDL but is $20M worth it for Jones with their other needs is the questions? That would be like half of what they can spend, depends on how many restructures they complete. I think they will go after cheaper options bc IDL is stacked in FA. They might spend more on a safety but imo IDL is their biggest weakness

There are hurdles but they can easily do it. Has happened a lot.

Here some tag and traded players. Plenty of examples.

Yannick Ngaguwke
Frank Clark
Jadeveon Clowney
Laremy Tunsil
Dee Ford
Jarvis Landry

It is simple as allowing a player to talk with other teams, working out a deal then trading him to the team and then he signs his new contract and agreeing on compensation.

Jones won't get what Payne got at 22.5 m but the DL market is set.

Quinnen Williams and Jeff Simmons will get similar. Jones will get just under.

Yes, it is a value proposition - with a salary cap you have to make choices.

The FA LB market is loaded this year.

Tremaine Edmunds
Bobby Wagner
Lavonte David
Bobby Okereke (Will prob get over paid at 12 m but he is a solid LB)
David Long
Erick Kendricks
Dru Tranquill
Germaine Pratt
Leighton Vander Esch
Rashaan Evans
Alex Singleton
Devin Bush
Kwon Alexanders
Kyzir White
TJ Edwards

So many LB's could be beneficial for us to re-sign Singleton. IF not, lots of options to replace him.

Other then losing Jones I think this should be a pretty fun offseason for us though. Minus the draft. Draft will still be fun but pretty dull compared to other years)

Overpay for Payne. His PFF ratings are pretty average and that is being kind. Not saying I live and die by PFF but it at least tells you something. I think he is really good but not 22.5M/yr GREAT

so you are suggesting Paton and Payton did not know this route existed or maybe there was no trade market

Fair point. Nether’s first rodeo.

What would explain it?

I believe what @Draft Crazy was alarmed about the Broncos not tagging Jones - was it was an indicator that the player and management either didn';t trust each other or they realized they were at cross purposes.

I’m choosing to believe not spending the money on Jones allowed us to sign Powers and McGlinchey, I think that’s worth it.

Agree. As the pols like to say, its a redistribution of wealth.

Wilson needs to put up or shut up now.
