This is one of those picks who's just going to get better and drafted higher if we let him get away...

Teams 2nd round picks are protected just as their 1st rounders are.

Given this, I have downgraded my expectation of signing Susac from "Hopeful" to "Possible".

This purely MY read on the situation, but I see this as a sign that the Giants have more leverage to be able to walk away from the negotiation table with him while he also has the ability to walk away since he has more college eligibility.

When NEITHER side has any pressure to get it done, that is not a good sign.

Hopefully, the Gs have already signed him to an above-slot deal and are just waiting for this evening to announce...

There are pretty good rumors right now that Oropesa has already signed, and I have heard earlier rumors that Black and Leslie signed a while ago. Only a few hours to go. We will see.

Baggs tweets that the Giants signed their top 13 picks. With 13th rounder Adam Paulencu still listed as unsigned, I guess He is passing. That means Black and Oropesa are in the fold, though.

He also reports that they only missed on 4 of their top 31. This comment is a bit odd, though, since round 31 and 32 are both already in the fold.

Regardless, it looks like the Giants did a GREAT job in locking down this class, and the top 4 guys (at least) look to be GREAT picks (Panik, Crick, Susac, Oropesa).

Among them was Oregon State catcher Andrew Susac, who was considered a steal as a second-rounder. Baseball America reported that Susac received first-round money — a $1.1 million bonus.

He has gotten a lot of attention, but yes, I think it is too early to include a guy like him (and Thomas and Arnold as well) in top 10 lists.

That does not diminish what these kids are doing. It is because of kids like these that I am quite excited about this class, and we still have not seen 2 of the biggest parts of the class yet.
