Minny should be good but you don't know about OTTAWA's goaltending?

Here's a hint. the Sens #1 goalie is the guy who has more than 400 games experience, hasn't had a year with less than a 0.911 sv% in the last 5 years and whose name rhymes with shmanderson.

As for the list, I'd say it's pretty goddam boring for a column that tries to be "different". It seems like all the safe picks are being made. I'd like to see the guy go out on a limb and pick one of the young teams (eg, Columbus, Ottawa or Calgary) to be a contender. Instead in the next column we'll likely just hear about how the Blues suck in the playoffs but MAYBE this is the year that they don't and about just how bloody gritty the Kings are dagnabit.

Anderson lost his spot late last season. Whether or not he bounces back from that remains to be seen. He's a veteran, so it shouldn't be a problem, but we'll see how things go. I expect big things from Columbus this year.

Not saying he was, but his regular season play wasn't all that great (his .914 regular season sv% was lower than any other Eastern Conference playoff goalie) and that could cost the Isles spots in the standings, which in what might be now the toughest division in hockey would make things very difficult for the Isles.

We'll see. If he gets hurt that's one thing, but Halak will be solid. I'm more concerned about secondary offense from the Isles. If they keep Strome at wing, that means Nielsen will be the #2 Center. I like Nielsen, but I prefer him in the #3 spot.

What the hell are you talking about? Anderson was hurt. Hammond was winning so he started the series with the Habs and was promptly pulled (although not promptly enough). Anderson played really well last year as his .923 sv% attests (only .006 lower than Dubnyk). He was all the team had going for it, really, prior to the coaching change.

He is the number 1 goalie. Now if only he can "bounce back" from that awful .923 sv% percentage!! :rolleyes2:

Injuries are always a factor. I view Anderson similar to Halak in that regard.

"They traded for Phil Kessel, a guy who was consistently near the top of the league in scoring in Toronto despite his no. 1 center being a canvas bag filled with sawdust and broken glass that someone had written “no. 1 center” on with spray paint."

That they paid $4 million/yr.

That they are still paying > $4 million/yr.

Shit tons of $$$.

Plus he was talking about trades where teams need to move cap room as well
The problem is teams that do trade high-end talent due to cap issues (ie Boston with Hamilton, Chicago with Saad) aren't giving them away. What's the point of NJ trading away a top-5 pick or other assets to get a known commodity when they could use the pick and potentially draft a star or continue developing their prospects?
