It has been interesting watching you post here. It was obvious you had a bro-mance with Alex. I get it because I have been the same with Kirk Cousin's.One of the reasons why I wanted Smith to play is that I didn’t want his last pass to be an interception. It still could happen, of course, but...
Not sure if he’s going to retire, but I always watch as if it is. I am a Utah Jazz fan and while I knew Stockton was old, I didn’t know when his last game would be. He isn’t the type to have a farewell tour. So, I watched the games, but not really with that intent.
I have been a Smith fan since he went to Utah and my Niners. I am already prepared for his last game to be a loss because if he doesn’t win the Super Bowl, it will be a loss, (assuming he doesn’t win this game but not start the playoffs).
When he had his injury against Houston, I thought that was his last game or at least last meaningful game but given the 53 man roster restriction, I thought that was his last game because the team wouldn’t want to use one of their precious spots just for a ceremonial snap. Active 46 even more so.
“Cool Story, Bro.”
Most of us were very much against the trade and even more so giving up capital that Bruce and Dan gave up and then signing Smith to a bad contract. dad named him CDC for his penchant to check down all the time.
Most of us thought he would never play again after that horrific injury. I think he won over fans here just for making it back. I'll never forget Aaron Donald jumping on his back in his first game back. I was expecting to hear SNAP!! ... at any time.
He has not impressed us with his play except for the fact that he has a freaking rabbit's foot in his pocket. The team just wins when he plays, no matter how he plays. I think he has inspired his teammates. I think he gets the line protections right, gets the team in the right plays and for the most part doesn't make too many mistakes.
I think most of us want him behind center today. We think with good D and his voodoo the WTF can win. Because of the hideous contract he will likely be here at least one more year. I can see him as a coach some day. The water cooler discussion last year was how much he was helping Haskin's. Sadly Haskin's learned little and apparently didn't go to class very often. Mahomes gives Smith a ton of credit for helping him as a young QB. I would be happy if he was here for another year or two with a young QB who would listen and learn.
If nothing else he has cemented a place in WTF lore. It has been quite the story.
