I’ve already contacted my district senator Steve Halloran and let him know I oppose such laws. Wrote a somewhat lengthy email providing examples of what this law could do.


For those who may want an example:


Senator Halloran,

It has come to my attention that LB58 and LB816 have made it to the floor. These proposed gun laws mimic those that Bloomberg has proposed in New York and what Northram in Virginia has passed into law.

Rural Nebraska does not need these laws to go into effect. These have been proposed by senators from big cities who have no idea how a gun can save the life of a rural person!

In a life threatening situation it takes a county sheriff anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes to reach the area of distress. In that time an individual who legally owns their own gun could end the threatening situation. A non gun owner would most likely die.

Example 1:My parents live on a farm just one mile inside their county. My mom, who was watching my two small children while I worked, walked in on her home being robbed. She thankfully hadn't gotten the girls out of the car yet and dropped the bag she had and ran back outside. She drove to the neighbors and called 911. The county sheriff is 40 minutes away for Merrick county while hall county is 15-20 minutes. Merrick county got the dispatch. By the time that sheriff got there the damage was done and no one has ever been charged. I thank God she reacted quickly and no one was injured.

Example 2: My daughter, now grown with her own children, lives in a small town, the sheriff is dispatched from the next town 32 minutes away. She had a strange vehicle parked in her driveway. She had been harraseed by an individual at her work and suspected this person had followed her home. She is not a gun owner. Sheriff is called and she got told he's on another call and cannot get there. She calls her neighbor who is a gun owner and he comes and helps her. The sheriff gets there two hours later. She does get to file a protection order against the person but we all know that doesn't stop the harassing.

My point is, these proposed laws are going to have the wrong impact. They aren't going to save people who have bad intentions towards others or people who are suicidal. (If an individual wants to perform such an act, they will find another method). Those people will find a way to do what they are setting out to do irregardless of any laws. Why punish those of us who are law abiding citizens and have legally procured our weapons, proper permits and have been trained in safety and proper utilization of said weapons use.

In my opinion, these proposed laws not only violate our second amendment but they will pave the way for a socialistic government that, in my opinion, will be the downfall of the United States of America. Each year it seems that legislatures seem to extinguish more and more of our rights and liberties set forth in the Constitution.

We’re really not supposed to change their minds, they’re supposed to follow what the majority wants. Although it doesn’t always work that way. Sadly.
