What if Cousins just goes off and has a monster game. The narrative for this season could completely change. If they can just give him time to throw. He has the weapons.
I would love that so much.

Actually the run game, or at least Alf, is most effective when Griffin is QBing. Even though he wasn't near the running threat last year or in 2013, that he was in 2012. Defenses would still play pretty honest with Griffin in the game. With Cuz though, they don't focus on him as a running threat at all. Least that's how I breaks it down.

You're not alone, I believe that the first test will come early against a seven man front, if our OL seems to be handling them (Geeez, I just crossed fingers, eyes and toes with that thought) they go with eight. If their defensive front looks like they can do the job with seven, expect a long evening for our guys. Kirk will have to take only what is there if the run game is stopped. Gruden could help him some if he does something bold that's successful at the start..... like a deep ball call, but as I said, it must be successful.

Depends. Do the Skins win the game. Or does Cousins have a great game, but shits the bed in critical moments like he did in his first start last year against Philly?

For me seeing Cuz have a monster game in a win would be like the Holy Grail. But I'd be cool if he had a good game/decent game in a loss as well. As long as he didn't shit the bed in a situation(s) where he could've led the Skins to a lead in the game, win the game, or keep the game competitive.

You been callin it/asking about it all preseason, homey. The answer, or the best possible response the Skins could come at the Phins with might just be a healthy or steady dose of some Matt Jones.

Thanks man, took a lot of shit for that call, but Miami got serious monsters up front, unless Ammo has bulked up more than I realize, we are gonna have to make it cost them something in energy for tackling our guy. Jones is the call here. Now watch some jac.... oops someone say that I'm calling for Jones to start.

Yeah, he doesn't have to start, in fact. Don't start him, but don't be afraid to feed him either if he's eating better than Alf is.

I love me some Alf. His attitude and the way he carries himself, how he seems centered. He reminds me a lot of Skins players from the Gibbs 1.0 era. He does have a shortcoming though that being his lack of speed/ability to burst. Jones doesn't have that issue and if he is running more effectively than Alf in this particular game. Go with it.

Well Breed, I gotta tell you, as we get closer and closer to this game, I'm getting more and more antsy about Gruden. We all love Ammo and there's no doubt that he's going to start. What worries me is his (Gruden's) penchant to become pass happy and because of that not give Miami a healthy dose of either Ammo or Jones. Then afterwards say that the running game was not working. The guy is our HC and I'm behind him 100% for as long as he makes that possible beginning with his willingness to not be afraid to use all of his weapons which also includes the use of our speed guys on tosses, screens and pitches. We have got to take the wind out of their front seven.

I dunno tymietee. I can't say I was impressed with Gruden's offensive wizardry or anything like that last year, but at the same time. I don't the 3 man QB platoon gave the Skins a lot to work with either. Cousins had a nice game against Philly and Jax after he took over for Griffin, McCoy put up some stats in the Indy and Dallas games and Gfiffin was decent for the most part against Philly.

Far as speed goes, I'm a little embarrassed to say this, but I'm not sure we had a whole lot of it last year in the offensive backfield. Naturally Alf led the team in rushing attempts with 265, but after that there's a big drop-off carries-wise with Helu coming in next with 40, Griff w/38, and Redd and McCoy next with 16 carries.

Cousins could go out, throw for 340 yards with three TDs and no INTs in a blow out win and the narrative would be

Well the Dolhins took the Skins lightly and the Miami Defense did not live up to pre season billing.

Lol - you are probably correct. Beyond that - I think that realistically you have to evaluate Cousins based on numerous games. I feel confident that Cousins knows how to run this offense and get results. The key is avoiding mistakes for the entire season (especially mistakes at key times & ones that either negate or result in TDs for the other team).

The O-line may not gel till perhaps midseason or beyond & the Dolphins D may be a bit too much to handle at this time. I hope that I am pleasantly surprised but won't be overly concerned if the Redskins have a relatively rough time on Sunday.

Honestly, the only thing that provides me a sense of hope for this season IS the potential play of Kirk.

Perhaps but I also see potential hope from both lines. Now it may not show immediately - especially with the O line - but it has the chance of showing real improvement as the season progresses - we will see.

The line? Moses on Wake. Brandon on Suh. Tough first week. Hopefully Bill can whip them into shape by mid-season. As far as the D-line? Love the pot roast signing. Hatcher is just simply out of position. He's a 43 DE/DT imo. We'll see what we get from him. Both line are improved. Might have to outscore people. Not sure about the pass rush, which will expose our secondary. If Kirk, Jax, Reed, Garçon, Alf, and Matt can keep pace, could get interesting.

Excerpt

BB: What is the Dolphins’ biggest weakness/vulnerability?

PP: The Dolphins’ biggest weakness is stopping the run. Surely, the Dolphins have Suh who will contribute to stopping the run and pressuring the quarterback, but beyond that the Dolphins linebackers aren’t exactly household names. It will be interesting to see if DC Kevin Coyle can get a lot out of this group stopping the run with the likes of Koa Misi, Kelvin Sheppard, and Chris McCain. Per Coyle, in Monday’s press conference with the Miami media, he plans on rotating players from the linebacker unit frequently until the main guys solidify. There could be an issue when facing teams that run an uptempo offense, but hopefully the coaches put the best players out there on a weekly basis. To me, the linebackers, if they don’t stop the run…it could be a long season. Teams with strong run games will feast on the Dolphins.

Yeah, linebackers aren't solid and Delmas is out and Grimes from what I hear is banged up. Landry, Stills, Jennings, Parker and definitely Cameron worry me.

Like I said - the improvement may not show immediately especially on the O line. If the O line and offense can escape from the Dolphins and Rams game without injuries or embarrassment that would be a good situation. These are possibly the best two D lines in the NFL. I expect those teams to win the battle of the line. Barring injury this will be a good learning experience for the Skins young lineman.

As for the Redskins D line - they picked up several good players beyond Knighton. At a minimum I expect them to be better against the run. I would also hope that they can engage the line & allow the Skins young LBs to put pressure on the QB. We will see & again this may take time so we might not see major progress during the first 3-4 games. Oh well - none of us really know & that is why they play the games.

Looks like Crowder has shown something the last few days of practice. He's going to be returning punts over Roberts. Excited to see what he's got.
