Clearly there is a difference, from an intent perspective, between 'Opener' and 'Starter'.
Shall will change stats on the back of baseball cards?

stats wise this is nowhere near a priority...

Will openers remain a thing for long??

I dont think openers need to be separated... But i do think for seasonal stats, a primary pitcher( or whatever the pitcher that pitches after the opener) should be considered starters....

A start should be any game where a pitcher pitches 5 or more innings...

but any of these pitchers with extended success will likely become starters anyway..

I think openers will remain a thing, especially for teams like Tampa. But you're right, there will probably some guys who start out playing either as the opener or long reliever that either become starters on their current team or leave for free agency to go to a team that will let them be a traditional starter.
