Any interest? As in any interest in starting/joining one? Not for me, but that doesn't mean they aren't great fun. The dynasty aspect opens up very interesting strategies when it come to roster moves, trades. .ect.. but having dine both formats, I prefer the redrafts or possibly a 1-2 keeper league.

mine is a littel different. We have a modified dynasty draft in that any player drafted in the top 3 rounds always go back into the pool but everyone else is keepable.

you can do a full dynasty that allows people to keep everyone they draft.

its really up to the group and how they want to do it.

SP -

In a basic nutshell, you draft a team Year 1 and you keep them all. When Year 2 rolls around you hold a rookie/free agent draft where you set a number of rounds and either have to cut your team down before or after the draft to maintain your roster size. For example, you have a 3 round rookie/FA draft so you'll need to either cut 3 players from your roster before or after the draft to keep the same roster size.

It's a pretty basic explanation but the rules quickly get complicated when you decide to tweak rules here and there. Another thing that you can include are contract lengths (any player you draft, you get to keep for X number of years before he returns to the draft pool). And maybe you have a different contract length for free agents. And when these players are traded, will their contract length go with them or can the other team add an extension for a few years if you trade them when their contract is going to expire at the end of the season?

My one league of 27 years has it so you can keep all or none of your players and each player you keep counts as one of your first draft picks. We have a 28-man roster (we use IDP too) and I could cut all 28 players and start my draft in Round 1 and pick from rookies and FA's where the next team may cut 20 players and not start until Round 9. So I get 8 (or 9 picks depending on draft order based on last year's record) before the next team gets to draft their first player.

Next to consider is how far into the future you might want to allow draft pick trades.

You can make it as complex or as simple as you want but it takes time to set up and lots of time to run and track things like future draft picks and contracts. My league started as a re-draft every year for the first 2 years and then to a "Keep 3" league and over the next 5-10 years we slowly changed the rules that got us to where we are now. I have to say that it took us so long because we overlooked a situation here or there every season that wasn't spelled out in the rules and then came up with a new rule to cover it for the following season. And basically, if something wasn't addressed, we decided that we'd let it stand since there was no rule to say you couldn't do that.

It's tons of fun but a lot of work for the commish. There's nothing like having a dynasty roster that will get you to the playoffs for the next 5 years without having to work your roster much. But it's the always having to look ahead and trading off the guys who are "getting old" for the right value that takes up a lot of time. Lots of trading done in these kinds of leagues (but I'd say the majority happens in the offseason before the next draft).

exactly how the keeper league i run is done...we love it ++

first 3 rounds cant be kept

one interesting twist all keepers start costing draft picks in the 5th and on
keep as many as you want so almost dynasty..

say keep 6 loose 5-6-7-8-9-10th picks

keep 3 loose 5-6-7 etc etc

so if you draft a beauty in the 4th he is a 5th round keeper in any following year

i try to trade for 4th round picks whenever i can

any free agent player acquired after week 7 can not be kept.....

Milk, I've tried getting in on two different style of dynasty leagues. One was a standard scoring league with your typical non-flex rosters. The other was a full IDP league with 11 defensive players (huge teams).

What ruined it for me was that not everyone was fully invested in it. Some let there teams erode. And some had drafted better teams than I did! It was annoying and discouraging.

If it were a redraft league, fine, ignore your team and run it into the ground. More of a serious, continuous commitment is needed of ALL of the owners in a dynasty league. And it wasn't there. I have zero interest in dynasty leagues.

I too have been interested in doing a Dynasty league. I would prefer to start in a new league rather than joining an existing one and inheriting someones abandoned team. If I don't get in the MBBRL B-League this season I am debating starting a dynasty league with other SH members. The trick is going to be finding others who are experienced & dedicated enough to stick with the league. While it seems like it would be a fun & challenging way to do FFB it would clearly also require more time & dedication than even a keeper league. If I am offered a spot in the MBBRL B-league I will most likely look to start a dynasty league next year. That may actually be the better way to go in terms of recruiting other teams and giving other interested parties the time to do the research necessary to be confident that it's something they really want to undertake.

I found the following article that has some good info:

Trent Richardson was widely regarded as the very best dynasty player and the consensus #1 pick, just last preseason. Needless to say, your team can go to shit in a second! You must be extremely careful, extremely.
