Do you support expanding the playoffs to 14 teams?

The problem is the regular season doesn't matter...14 team playoff would result in far less quality games throughout the season. "Who cares?" We could lose the last 5 and still be locked into a playoff berth."

If the regular season doesn't matter, how does one advance to the playoffs?

The problem here, as I pointed out in another thread, the system is already permitting teams with 9 or 8 wins, the opportunity to beat 10 to 16 win quad. We saw in 2007, the Giants at 10-6, beating the 13-3 Cowboys and the 14-2 Packers, and going on to win the Super Bowl against a 16-0 team. Remember the Giants lost to the Cowboys twice during the regular season and lost the head-to-head match-up against the Packers. If the regular season means so much to you guys, why permit a team like the Giants to win the Super Bowl? In 2005, the Colts ripped apart the Steelers during the regular season, but the system said the Steelers gets another shot, and look what happened? The Steelers at 11-5 beat the Colts at 14-2.

I don't support it, but it will likely happen. The playoffs make the NFL a ton of money, if they expand the playoffs that means more money.

It won't upset me if it happens, but I think it slightly chips away at the significance of making the playoffs.

A 2-14 team could get hot over the right stretch. The fact of the matter is that they don't deserve to be there.

Neither does anyone who doesn't win their division. But the league is generous and provides both a second and a third chance. A fourth chance is just absurd.

I can understand that you would rather have an 8 team playoffs- 2 rounds+ Superbowl... But once football allowed the WC, you knew they would never go back, and it is not logical to be more outraged with 14 than 12...

Is it logical to be upset by 32 than by two?

Every step towards weakening the regular season is a bad step. Period. And it's bad for business too. Yeah, people might watch the extra playoff game. But the last several weeks of the season when less games really matter, because half the league makes it? Those ratings will fall hard.

I just dont buy your argument that this hurts football in anyway... Comparing sports is stupid... Football is still only 16 games!!! fans wont care less about there team because of this!!! and people who just love football and watch all games they can, will never stop watching any game!!! hell, they watch thursday night football which is known for some terrible games!!!

But people watching their own teams is a small subset of their viewers. People watch interesting match ups and when 6-8 teams have playoff berths locked up going into week 13, people won't care.

I have always found it more interesting to see where someone is seeded than to find out whether they make the playoffs... And again, i dont see how one more seed and one more game affects this in a significant way...

Remember back when every year the playoff teams were resting their starters for the last game or two of the regular season? The NFL finally did something about that by moving most of the division games late in the season and having every team's last game a divisional one.

It's not a perfect system but you see WAY fewer meaningless regular season games because of that. It was a smart move.

Adding more teams to the post season would blow that up and we'd be back to square one. If a team clinches the 3rd or 4th wildcard :-)L) spot and they have no chance of advancing in the seeding they'll rest their starters just like the #1 seed will and we'll have a shitload of preseason games happening in December again.

No thanks.

Umm. I have a problem with posts like this, you are against it for a reason that makes absolutely no sense. If a team has clinched any spot except the 7 seed they would have clinched in the current system too. And It rarely happens for a team to throw a game to get a worse seed.
