I have to say I have never heard of this until I watch an episode of Alton Brown's Good Eats on Netflix recently. I guess it helps reduce the bitterness of coffee. I've been trying it out but since I use a little half and half it's kind of hard to tell the difference in my opinion.

I don't drink coffee, but here is a thread from a site I like about this topic:

Yes, salted since I was a kid. My parents did, so that is how I learned and never changed

It's funny but that is the only thing I salt. I seldom use salt when cooking, and I can't remember the last time I salted anything at the table. Now pepper on the other hand goes on everything at the table...we use at least a can of pepper per month

I'll have to give that a try tomorrow. It sounds interesting.

That's crazy. Salt is needed on damn near everything.

It doesn't take much. Just sprinkle a bit on top and it turns any Folger's mix into gourmet :D

It's strange but I find most stuff too salty...not sure why. If and when I go to fast food places I always order my fries without salt.

If your coffee is too bitter:
1) You're drinking crap coffee, and/or
2) You don't actually like coffee.

I tried the cinnamon thing and it just made the coffee too cinnamony. As for the salt thing, it seems like it only makes a difference if I drink it black.

makes sense, would prob make a slight difference with milk or cream(might have to add a it more though? not sure), but would make the most difference when drinking it plain/black...

truthfully, the key is finding the right coffee to water ration, and having a decent brewer.......otherwise its all gonna taste kinda icky......unless your the 55 year old construction worker who likes their coffee to taste like oil.....
