I just wish people would treat it like the NHL. It's a great sport and who gives a shit where the players were born.

Nope. Like I have explained in the past, cities don't win Stanley Cups, the players do. With the exception of the parade and the banner raising the next season, that city hardly ever sees the cup. It spends all of its time in the summer with the guys who win it.

I like the fact that both anthems are played at Sabres games regardless of who the Sabres are playing.

I don't care if Canadians win the cup, just as long as the Canadiens don't win.

With few exceptions once my team is out I do not really care who wins. There are a few teams I really hate and a few I like more than others but overall I just continue to watch without too much of a rooting interest in one team.

I guess there's more to be said in cheering for certain players than certain cities/teams. In this years case though, I want to see a team win for the city they play in and the history. Aka: never won it before, and watching them celebrate that would be awesome.

If I was from Canada I might be a little pissed if the Yotes won...

Just curious. I know USA teams have plenty of Canadian players on their teams, but does the fact that a American city team wins the Stanley Cup bother Canadians?

No, but I do hate it when the US team that I cheer for fails to win it each year. :L

I do know some people who "hate" it though when US teams win the Cup. "Hate" is a pretty strong word, but what I mean is that they will often cheer for any of the 6 Canadian teams over the US team simply because they are Canadian. I find those are usually the casual fans though. The hardcore fans usually don't care and are often more likely to cheer against the Canadian team if its not their own. But more than anything, I think some Canadians hate that a Canadian team hasn't won the cup in 18 years.

A buddy of mine gave me a hard time last night when I told him I was cheering for Boston. He figured that I should automatically be cheering for the Canadian team. I just reminded him how much closer we are to Boston than Vancouver and told him I've been to Vancouver once in a my life and it was more than 20 years ago, whereas I've been to Boston countless times and actually saw a game there this season.

"Oh, hey Mexico... No, we just happened to run into each other here. Crazy, huh? Why don't you join us? Come by YOUR place? Mmmm, I don't know. I don't want to speak for Canada here, but your neighborhood has been a little "loco" for me latel... what's that?...oh okay, Canada agrees too. Come on! No, it's not a "us v. you" thing. Don't make this weird Mexico. Mexico! Come back!!.... Oh good, that was awkward. So anyway, tell me more about YOUR football rules. 3 Downs?!? Oh, Canada, you slay me. Your my best friend. Too bad England and Germany are so far outside of town, we could all hang out."

"Alan Thicke! Great punchline, Canada. That's too funny. Ooops, hang on. Hello?... Oh hi Japan. Sure, come on by. Awesome, see you soon. So Japan is coming by, hope that's cool. Of course it is, you're so laid back, Canada. Japan's great. Even if she wasn't, it's hard to not like someone who just enjoys you so much. Especially since we were SUCH an asshole to her a few years back. What's that? Well, the NBA finals is on, but sure, I'll watch a little hockey."

I would say no, for the most part. I think the only bother is when their own particular team doesn't win just like any other fan base. I've never bought into this stupid USA vs. Canada bullshit anyway. I think it's childish and useless and Canada and the U.S. have a symbiotic relationship and they need each other in many ways. That's just me, though. What's ironic about this year is if Van wasn't in this thing, I'd be cheering hard for the Bruins even if any other Canadian based team was in it. The Bruins were my favorite team from the late 60's to the mid 90's even though I was a B.C. boy and liked the Canucks.

And the fact that you live in the USA :usa2:
