Just curious. I know USA teams have plenty of Canadian players on their teams, but does the fact that a American city team wins the Stanley Cup bother Canadians?

I would say no, for the most part. I think the only bother is when their own particular team doesn't win just like any other fan base. I've never bought into this stupid USA vs. Canada bullshit anyway. I think it's childish and useless and Canada and the U.S. have a symbiotic relationship and they need each other in many ways. That's just me, though. What's ironic about this year is if Van wasn't in this thing, I'd be cheering hard for the Bruins even if any other Canadian based team was in it. The Bruins were my favorite team from the late 60's to the mid 90's even though I was a B.C. boy and liked the Canucks.

Yea that rivalry is bullshit, especially nowadays with Bettman preventing teams certain teams from moving to Canada (ignore Winnipeg) . If it were a free market, I'd say there would be a rivalry, but the NHL is private so it is dictated by few people.

But making fun of Canadians is so fun!

Nah, I've never really bought into the USA vs. Canada stuff when you're talking about 30 private club teams, it just provides easy fodder for media guys.

I'm a Canadian who's rooting for Boston, but if the Canucks win the Cup, that's ok, both teams have a passionate fanbases and are providing entertaining hockey in this series.

/All I ask is for four or five more games...

I'm the same way. That's what Bobby Orr will do to a generation.
Jean Ratelle was always a favourite too.

Orr, Espo, Cashman, Hodge, Cheevers, Marcotte followed by O'Reilly, Ratelle, Park, Jonathan, and Middleton (just to name a few).

Those '70s Bruins teams were a ton of fun to watch...

I might be the only born and raised American on these boards whose all-time favorite team is based in Canada.

We're basically the same country. Our cultures are so similar it's ridiculous that they're be any sort of rivalry. I mean, can you think of any other countries that border each other with such similar cultures? Sure I guess a lot of those smaller, former USSR nations are similar, but the Canadian/US bond is pretty spectacular when you think about it.

Canada is exactly like the United States except for things like running water and electricity.

Oh yeah, that wasn't a knock against Canada. I'd give my left nut to be able to go outside and scoop up some fresh snow in a bucket.

This is quite funny coming from someone hailing from balmy Michigan...Of course, your state is home to the Flint Tropics, so maybe I'm just talking out of my ass...

After travelling a bit more of the US, I don't think we're as similar as (I) previously thought. But the variation between US and Canadian culture is no more pronounced than the regional varations within each country. Without a question though, we have more in common than we do with any other country.

That shouldn't take away from a rivalry though. The more similar you are to a rival, the more you want to prove yourself to be better.

I don't cheer for Canadian franchises just because they're Canadian, though. If Tampa Bay or Buffalo was in the SCF instead of Boston, I'd be cheering for them. I will also cheer for anyone over the Leafs...
