Certainly not trying to start drama, it's a simple culture change that we have needed in DC for years. Now, with his supposed "free pass" to do whatever he wants while his teammates bust their tales to prepare for another season, don't you think for just a minute this is the perception that McCloughan & Co want to change? Let's face it, Gruden is in year 2 and with decisions like this one, he won't be around much longer walking around the Redskins head quarters with no back bone. Don't think for a minute that players such as Ryan Kerrigan, Alfred Morris or RG3 for that matter would miss an OTA without a personal reason. This reflects poorly on DJax, the head coach and the organization for allowing this kind of latitude. I can only imagine what the players who attend the OTA's are saying among themselves.

Even though I stated that I don't have any issue with Jackson on this one - you do bring up an excellent point. Could you imagine if it were RG3 & not Jackson who skipped the OTAs & was seen attending NBA playoff games? You would have to laugh about it. The media & certain fans & haters would have a field day. Granted - RG3 needs this practice more than Jackson. I just get a kick out of the overreaction to anything done by or about RG3.

The Steelers claim to be a no nonsense organization. Any mis-steps and they dump your sorry ass. Until their franchise QB raped a woman. Then it became clear there were different rules for star players and backup linebackers.

It's the way it is. Maybe David Amerson can't get away with this sort of thing but if it's a star, and again cleared by the coach (no doubt because he is a star) then it's just not that big of a deal.

Just people trying to start drama

That would be sooo true.......if.......this was an expansion team/organization in its first season. Truth is this is an organization that went horribly south in the last 15 years (save one lucky one). SM for all of his good work has not yet put in enough time tob erase all of that. As I've written it is NOT a big deal from a team standpoint........the organization would do well to step up its game to match SM's efforts. There is a difference between the two. (Reminder: "we're winning off the field")

So what's your point? What should the skins do about it? Scot is already transitioning from these type of players so what are we bitching about?

This is not about the players, it's about an organization that still doesn't seem to realize that they have hired a real football mind capable of transitioning the team, while his boses twirl around in dunce caps oblivious to that effort. You want to change the culture within the team and organization, great!!! How about starting with ending privilege for star players. Don't wanna do that? Remember, it is you who's stated that SM is transitioning these type of players, hopefully we'll field more championship caliber players who will also want to be excused from OTA's voluntary or otherwise because they have better things to do. So much for culture change!!!

Perhaps they are already doing certain things behind the scene. The team's job does not have to include making everything public to the media & the fans. One of the biggest problems in the past was the organization always trying to impress the media. The current front office doesn't appear to give a crap which IMO is awesome. F the media.

One player missing a few OTA sessions is no big deal & if some fans or media folks don't like it - tough. This isn't a popularity contest. Certainly at this time the Redskins look better than certain other teams who have domestic abuse guys and major substance abusers on their roster. Let's just wait a few seasons before coming to judgement on any of this.

I completly understand what you are saying and agree....but this is VOLUNTARY!!!! Djax could have said....well im going weather you approve or not so you may as well approve.... Lets be real here...Sure the coachs would have wanted him there, but they also know.....they have no power to compell him to be there.. and giving the blessing may be a good thing as the team sees the coachs are wanting a good team and not stupid enough to piss and moan about missing the first week of OTAS and potentially make a great receiver with a "history" of being a malcontent pissed....and start him down the road we don't want him to go down!!!

every nfl team has stars . every nfl team treats stars differently . one week of OTAS wont break us and the structure of the organization would come tumbling down . perhaps in 2017 when his contract is up they will move on to something else .

I completely agree with this sentiment from a players perspective. There is however a drastic culture change needed within this organization and that elevates this to a level of concern for them. Kiem you can do better than this, the story has NEVER been about the players perspective.

You seem to expect an over night change in culture. Doesn't work like that IMO and for some players it will never work like that.

Not saying it's right but that's the reality of it. We knew what DJax was when we signed him. One of the reasons I wasn't for it at the time. However, I'm not hypocritical enough to say he hasn't helped this team during season.

When off field over rides talent, pretty sure DJax will be gone.

How did you completely miss the point that this IS NOT about the players?????? Organizational culture change comes from those in charge of the organization, not their employees!!!

No it won't happen overnight but when these things pop up, especially here, they have to understand that bad PR almost always are the results of something that was poorly or improperly handled prior to or in the moment.

I didn't miss any point. There is a player missing from almost every teams OTAs for one reason or another. Each Front Office seems to use the same language with players who show up on game day. Including franchises that are consistently successful.

So why are you still focused on what a player has done or not done attendance wise in relation to OTA's? We are not talking about what every other team does in response, but this one!!

This has nothing to do with organizational change. This is how business works today. You can't make something voluntary through a player's agreement and then "punish" someone for not attending.

Go into your 90 person office and announce coming to work on Friday is voluntary and see what happens.
