Atlanta has a catcher that wont be ready for a year or 2 in Bethancourt. Here's the thing with Mccann, he isnt actually the Mccann of a few years back. Atlanta can keep him cheap for a couple of more years at probably what Russel Martin got in Pittburgh. Mccann wont have a chance to hit the open market. He's already on record he doesnt want to leave his home state of GA. And noone is going to give him an obscene amount of money.
Atlanta only has 43 million of payroll next season, Hudson will be gone, that frees money to sign Mccann. They're loaded with arb 1 and arb 2 guys, who will be cost effecitve, like Kimbrel and Freeman. I dont know where anyone is getting Atlanta is A) Letting him walk, B) they can't afford to sign him.
Gotcha
Would the emergence of Gattis change that thinking at all?
Or is the OF is ultimate destination ?
