Not questioning you, but where did you read that it was ownership and not Dipoto doing the firing? I admit I didn't dig deep into it, but haven't heard that before. This is confusing in a way. Ownership basically neutered him when it came to firing Servais and hiring Wilson. Supposedly Hollander is the GM so I’m confused on what his actual job is now. If he doesn’t have ability to hire and fire then what is he the head of? Just gets paid to be the punching bag so the owners don’t have to be?
Just all the signs of the firing of Scott and hiring Dan lead back to ownership doing it. The two big things that seal it in my mind was A. The leak that Servais was fired and B. Wilson was hired by the time the official word came out that Servais was fired. Wilson and Edgar are ownership’s guys not Jerry IMO.Not questioning you, but where did you read that it was ownership and not Dipoto doing the firing? And I would gladly be the owners punching bag for that kind of money.
I understand.from...a fansSomeone on reddit's response
"Dipoto isn't even mediocre. The guy has been in control of 3 different major league orgs since 2010 and has 1 division title, 2 playoff appearances, and one playoff series win in that time. We are in his 10th year in control of this org and so far we have 1 playoff appearance, 0 division titles, have one of the worst lineups in modern baseball, and are about to not even make a WC spot despite us being in the middle of Dipotos self proclaimed "WS window".
Mediocre would be an improvement at this point. I honestly can't stand Dipoto and am flabbergasted he is still employed. Then again, this is the Mariners."
Did you listen to that Divish video? He said they were not friends. Maybe at one time, but not for sometime. Dipoto is a user. Users don't keep friends.Just all the signs of the firing of Scott and hiring Dan lead back to ownership doing it. The two big things that seal it in my mind was A. While I have bad opinions of Jerry, I don’t think it is possible that he was going behind his friends back and talking to Dan Wilson about seeing if he’d take over nor do I think Jerry would’ve leaked it out. Plus in Scott’s post firing interview he said he knew that if they didn’t make the playoffs he wouldn’t have had his contract renewed. So if that’s the case it seems somewhere along the way Jerry and Scott talked about it.
And for sure. That’s part of why it is now a hate listen to the Locked on guys because they pretend as if Jerry is some unpaid martyr. It really bugs me because with how they talk about Jerry makes me defend ownership and I feel gross after. Should ownership be move visible, sure but Jerry literally is getting paid to be the guy representing the ownership for good or bad
All the trades the M's made this year have Dipoto's fingerprints all over them. I'm 100% convinced that Dipoto is still the true GM and Hollander is a fall guy that they can ax if they feel they need to make it appear that they're doing something. This is confusing in a way. The fact that ownership is keeping Dipoto, despite getting blasted by not just Mariners fans, but MLB fans around the league shows how much of a joke they are.
