Would not mind at all if he retired a Bear. He may still have a little bit left in the tank as a return man. Obviously his prime is gone, but he could be an upgrade. We could likely get him on the cheap. He actually was a pretty serviceable receiver when he was on the field with Atlanta. Could be a nice depth addition there as well.

Am I nuts here? I kind of want to see him back in the blue and orange, rocking #23 again. Maybe I'm reaching, and I'm just sentimental. The thing is too... this staff has no ties to him, and neither does this management. I don't think those thoughts would even occur to them.

The last two years of Mariani fair catches and returns to the 19 have been much better. But to be honest, Hester did about the same his last two in Chicago.
Though, I gotta think Fox already has HIS guy to return kicks.

Who cares, The kick/punt return man has basically been made obsolete, so they can just get rid of kick returning all together at some point and no one will care. They should have never tried to make him a wideout, and left him where he was while the kick return game meant something.

Seriously, fuck the NFL for ruining the return game.

If that isn't enough reason to get into the HOF, I don't know what it. They literally changed the rules cuz he was dominating so much.

Devin Hesters contract would have paid him a 10 million dollar bonus if he became a top ten receiver. That contract had him scooting out of bounds instead of taking hits. They would have been better off giving him a bonus for returning 50 kicks for TDs. There was no way to justify paying a return only man that 4 year 30 million dollar deal. let alone the 4/40 deal he ultimately signed.

Well if kick and punt returning are almost obsolete and it doesn't matter who is back there, then why not Devin then?
If it does not matter, then what the hell, sign him up.........I`m betting it would cost much........and retiring a Bear would mean a lot to him.(I`d think anways)

Hester was great in 2013... Don't know what you're talking about there.

I don't get this point people keep wanting to make every year, since the change in 2011.

Kicks are still taken out VERY often. Guys just come out from deeper now. There is touchdown returns on kicks on a weekly basis. We almost won a game on a return last year, before Gould went and choked on that chip shot to win it vs SF.

And how does it effect the punt return game? That aspect is the same as it has always been.

I have nearly zero recollection of Devin running out of bounds, other than when the punt was completely covered and there was no need. I do, however, have a recollection of 08 and 09 when Devin basically lost his job to the Daniel Manning and Johnny Knox's of the world. When he refused to go down, and would regularly lose yardage running around in circles. Making giant cuts back across the field.

And concussions

This...

The rule change didn't have anything to do with Devin Hester. lol

NFL was under fire and they had yet to make a real attempt at altering the rules to help concussions. The moving of the kickoff was a feeble attempt at that. Just so they could say they were doing "SOMETHING".

Well, that too, instead of running straight and making one or two miss, he tried to go around them where he was not going to get hit.
