Ryder is going to wear 17. Ryder hasn't played yet and he's quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

Hope Teds steps up this season. We lost a lot of skill on the team when Kovalchuk bolted to Russia. No question Tedenby has skill, he just needs to get it going at this level.

Maybe that skate to the face gives Tedenby the grit he's been lacking?

Teds better have an amazing camp. In terms of players definitely in front of him, this will be the absolute hardest lineup to crack that he's been against.

No way he displaces the following:
Zajac
Jagr
Ryder
Elias
Henrique
Clowe
Zubrus

Loki (Slight Advantage)
JJ (Slight Advantage)
Olesz (Slight Advantage)
He's really going to need to show he belongs here. The top 9 is pretty damn full.

Not a bad roster if you ask me. Lots of people think the Devils will suck because of the recent losses of Zach Parise, Ilya Kovalchuk, & David Clarkson. Those were no doubt big losses, but I really like the depth of the Devils. Seems that in spite of losing key players on the 1st 2 lines they always have solid 3rd & 4th lines.

It's funny you mention that, because since the last lockout the Devils have definitely made the playoffs with worse teams than this.

Technically speaking the Devils haven't made the playoffs since the last lockout.

jk

I figure you're talking about 2004-05.

I think Jagz & Ryder will make up for the loss of Kovy & Clarkson. With Scheieder the Devils might actually be better this season than last season. Good depth on that team, wouldn't underestimate them.

I'll remain sick and tired of Tedenby and JJ until one or both prove they belong. Until then I'll just continue to expect nothing out of em and be surprised with whatever they give.

But Loktioniov is clearly better and Im anxious to see what Olesz can do when given an opportunity.

Our depth going into this season is something to get excited over..if things break right I could easily see 7 guys give us 20 goals.

i would put jj and ted on the 4th line. face it with 1 year deals chances are this is their last shot in the nhl anyway. keep them on the 4th line all season since they are getting nhl level contracts even if they are in albany. put them into some situations in the game. like up 2 goals see what they can do.

i never did like having "tough guys" on the 4th line. its just a waste of space to be honest with you. but hey put some kids on the line like jj and ted and maybe give them 6-7 mins a game see what they can do with it at this point in their devils careers can't hurt

Jagr in his prime is the best that I've seen. Mario and Gretz were at the tail end of their careers and were still ridiculous. But Jagr circa 2001 was on another level. He was putting up 125 points in the dead puck era.

Any way,

12 forward spots, in my opinion the locks are:

1: Zajac 2: Elias 3: Truth 4: Jagr 5: Ryder 6: Clowe 7: Zubrus 8: Bernier 9: Carter 10: Gionta

That really leaves 2 spots and if I had to guess Loki and Matteau have the inside track. Unless JJ can play on the wing we're already pretty set at center and unless Tedenby tears it up I just don't see him being defensively responsible enough to be a solid contributor in the bottom 6.

I think Loki's a lock off his play last year
