Feels like the win was Boston’s FO unloading a disgruntled player’s contract, not the incoming talent

Yes they did unload a shit ton of money but this fan doesn't have any confidence that they will spend it correctly

Gore looks Webb-esque
Abrams is 24 and just outside the top group of NL SSs
Wood is 22, and quite frankly, I would probably trade Devers for Wood one-up today
I meant I don't think we sent any potential FotF players to Boston...you said we sent one, I don't see it but of course could be wrong.

So Giants won this trade
Like most trades both sides can potentially 'win' it. Giants got what they needed (if he produces), Boston got what they needed (pitching and salary relief). What happens to the other team no longer matters for you guys.

Well I don't think the Giants traded for him for his glove as I think he will be your primary DH at this point.
Will play 3rd probably while Chapman is hurt, then DH mostly. For next year I think they'll want him to play 1B and DH some, can back up 3rd in a pinch. We know he's not a great glove.

Harrison is POTENTIALLY a FotF pitcher.
I don't see it, but have been wrong before. I think we got away with dealing the lowest potential one of our high potential pitchers.

Sounds like the relationship with the Boston FO was just beyond toxic. And there is a history of the Boston FO fostering a toxic atmosphere with their star players.

That said, I don’t want to rush him into the field. Apparently he hasn’t touched a mitt since ST, so I would prefer they give him at least a week or so of FP before starting him ANYWHERE in the field. He can bring instant value as our DH. Let’s ease him in.
I’d be surprised if they do anything else here. No rush unless Casey is hurt.

Dude is 28. WAY too early to take his jacket measurements or lock the door to him.

I tend to agree that he likely won’t be a HOFer, but there are lots of pages still to be written in his book.
I think he’s on track. As always though, injuries will determine it.

I agree 100% but none of his production in his 20s looks like HOF resume. He's never been one of the best players in the league, and his numbers are very very good but not HOF good. He is having one of his best years ever this year, but of course hitting in SF is different than Boston, especially for lefties. Doesn't change my enthusiastic approval of the trade.

Somebody did an overlay of his HR to Oracle and it turns out that he’d actually have MORE in SF. He is one of the best bats in the league and has been for a couple of years. We can quibble over good and great but I’m sold.

It’s all going to come down to whether he can develop a legit second pitch or not. His profile and arm slot doesn’t suggest that he will be able to, but who knows.

As you know I'm sold too. Just pushing back on the HOF talk. His numbers aren't that.

The 'overlay' trick isn't super accurate, the park is tough for hitters for more reasons than the dimensions. The ball doesn't carry as far, and pitches break harder thanks to the foggy, cold, heavy air most games.

That's the biggest risk, what will playing for the Giants do to his hitting? Adames we can see is struggling here...

The Giants historically know how to develop pitchers while the BoSox know how to develop hitters. If the Giants have “given up” on Harrison, you are likely correct. Most of the young arms the Giants have “given up” on in the past have not developed. There are really only 2 big exceptions (Wheeler and Castillo).

Fenway air =/= Oracle air.

Melky hit just fine here.

There weren’t any other mitigating factors to explain his great hitting…

Please keep him away from first base.....Dominic is doing just fine there and hitting over .300
Wilmer becomes a part time player/DH, Devers hits like a demon, Adames gets motivated to keep up, and Verlander comes back like a CY pitcher again....voila.....could win the division....although catching is a black hole....

C - Bailey
1B - Smith
2B - Fitz/Schmitt
SS - Adames
3B - Schmitt/Devers
RF - Yaz
CF - JHL
LF - Ramos
DH - Devers/Flores

When Chappy comes back, then he eats the majority of 3B reps and maybe Devers can pick up a 1B or 2B glove (likely a 1B) for occasional duty. Next year, MAYBE Devers takes a more active role in the defense, but if Eldridge is up, they will split time between 1B and DH.

Why is there talk of Devers playing 2nd base? That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. It seems his only spot on the field should be 1st base and more likely should just stick with DH.

From the little I’ve seen, I am a big fan of Smiths. Hate to see him get lost in this shuffle.

I want to see better sustained production from both Schmitt and Fitz before inking them in. Maybe 1 is jettisoned. Flo may be the odd man out when the dust settles

I don't see Flores on the team in 2026. He will be a free agent this year and seems redundant with Devers around.
