Personally....I'd wait for Norris and JD Martinez to return and pretend those were trade deadline pickups. If Detroit wants to add a cheap rental player - fine. I hear Clay Buchholz is 'out' in Boston. If Boston picks up most of his remaining salary for the year....give him a shot. He can't do much worse than Pelfrey and Sanchez.

One of those "beer leaguers" over at Jimmy John's Field near me couldn't do much worse than Pelfrey and Sanchez.

Aviles typically only starts against left-handed pitchers, but he may have gotten the start against the right-handed Ricky Nolasco because of his .571 career average (8 for 14) against him.

Backup catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia is starting again Monday after hitting a game-winning home run in the ninth inning Sunday.

Who saw this pitching duel coming? Would be a kick in the pants to lose this one going into the 8th with a 1-0 lead.

Twins were down. Lots of them wondering where they will be playing in a couple of weeks. Good game by Boyd. Keep throwing him out there. He may eventually fold like wet cardboard....but let him sink or swim. Let Sanchez and Pelfrey sit....I've seen their acts. Stale.

I actually wrote on the ALC board that it would probably be a 2-1 game tonight...as a joke. Who knew.

Norris tossed 4 innings in a rehab start, allowing 5 hits and 1 run. Looks like he's on track to return sooner than Zimmermann.

Article at MLB had a deflating point of view about Detroit's chances of grabbing any top pitching help at the trade deadline. Flatly stated, "Detroit's minor league system is too depleted to outbid anyone...."

I guess Detroit has had scouts watching Rich Hill. Seeing as how this guy has reoccurring blister problems....????

Any who....The Tigers, with their slumping offense and questionable rotation have somehow stayed within range of a Wild Card spot. Only 2.5 games behind, with only one team between them and the second WC spot. Long live AL parity.

Since the break, the Tigers have scored 4, 4, 4 and 1, and have won 3 of 4. The only clunker (big surprise) was Pelfrey's start. Not worried about the offense's mini-slump. It won't last forever. Still gotta have more consistent starting pitching, and a bullpen that can get the ball into F-Rod's hands with a lead.
