Hope this doesn't push Kinsler to leadoff and Upton in the two hole.

But it'd be good for Upton's numbers.

Best case scenario he has two great seasons, opts out and we get a bonus 1st rounder and two great seasons from our Leftfielder.

Now that the Tiger's signed Upton.. what the hell is Aviles going to do on the roster... I couldn't figure out why he was signed in the first place.. but now it is even worse... His place on the 25 man roster should be a for a left handed hitting player.

Romine will have to provide backup at first to give Miggy some time off in 8th and 9th innings in blowouts. Both Romine and Avila have some outfield experience to supply a 5th outfielder. If anyone goes....I'd expect it to be Romine, but since there won't be a lot of pinch hitting - I suppose Ausmus could work with that bench.

Romine is a switch hitter... Aviles is right handed only. Romine playes better defense at every position too.

Cespedes for 3 years and 25 mil per... or Upton at 6 years and 22 mil per.... The opt outs are the key as Cespedes is almost certainly going to opt out after the year is over to secure a longer deal if he puts up big numbers again.. as will upton after 2 years... so basically do you take Cespedes on a 1 yr 25 mil deal... or Upton on a 2 yr 44 mil deal?

I loved Cespedes but I do like the idea of Upton's OBP and walk rate taking his place in the lineup... Cespedes being a tad bit better in the outfield.. but not by so much that is really factors...


The other note to this... The Mets kinda needed this to keep the offense decent...

Can't trade Aviles without his OK. I guess they could eat the $2mil they owe him....but that would be admitting to being stupid. As for Tyler Collins....who is he going to pinch hit for? Upton? JD? Cabrera? Kinsler? If you pinch hit him for Castellanos, you have to use your backup infielder anyhow. Ditto with Iglesias. So Collin's role would come down to rare starts in the outfield and pinch running. I think Detroit has a lot more to worry about than that. Like will McCann punch out Iglesias in April or May* (thus the necessity of both Avila and Romine) and will Gibson and Trammell bad mouth Upton until he cracks?

Maybe the Tigers made the better choice, granted Cespedes is a much better defender with a better arm.

I wouldn't say he is a much better defender... Cespedes is a better defender but it really isn't that huge of a gap... and before last year people were complaining about Cespedes defense saying he was just a strong arm.

The Tiger's sat down and decided they were going to go after Upton... They could have had Cespedes most likely with a similar deal they gave Upton... I actually like the idea of Upton at the plate over Cespedes because he gets on base more and hits just as many HR... Cespedes defense doesn't make up for his lesser ability to get on base compared to Upton.
