Nice comeback win tonight. Didn't expect to switch back from the hockey game to anywhere near as good of a 7th, 8th and 9th.

Nice game tonight For your Tigers! Cabrera is awesome. I cringe everytime I see him coming to the plate. Gotta to be fun to be a Tigers fan right now!

it is except...for that bull pen... if we had closer that we can count on in the play offs...we would be golden.

looks like Pena is the answer for Avila.

Well, I had to get up early for work and turned off the Tigers after Pena/Dirks both popped out with the bases juiced. (By then, the Wings had won.) Good to see the result.

Sorry to be correct on Porcello... after three decent starts, you knew he was due for a shelling. It's gotten pretty predictable with him the last few years. Back up to a 6.28 ERA, and he's on pace to give up about 28 HR this season -- not good for a supposed ground-ball pitcher. I'm with Iffy on this one -- see if he can have enough decent starts to get the team into July, and start looking for trade options. If there are no takers, get Smyly into the rotation. Actually, I'm not sure Leyland will have the patience to wait until July.

If he played in the NBA, we would already have 100+ threads about the guy.

Lets dump on Porcello no matter what happens......If Porcello is traded and Smyly is put in the rotation who takes his spot in the pen. where he has been invaluable.....the same guys that want to do this have posted the pen is a mess.....without what Smyly has done there it be a complete fuckin' mess......Porcello is the 5th starter and we have won more games than lost when he pitches......What team in the AL has a 5th starter that has done that......He is not going to start in any post season games......If and when an injury happens to the SP we are awful thin....anyone who thinks we are going to get another Ace is crazy......not saying we should stand pat but lets not jump off a cliff.....

I agree burf.....porcello is a 5th starter......we wont even use a 5th starter if we make the playoffs.....smyly has been valuable in the pen.......unless porcello brings a pretty decent relief pitcher, then i say stand pat.

Who is dumping on Porcello? He is what he is....a 5th starter who will soon not be worth the money he will be paid. I hope he drags his ERA down to under 5.00 by the time of the All Star game and the Tigers can use him as a trade chip. You said yourself that he is no more than an un-needed 5th starter. If he can be used to land a player that might really help....why not? The problem may end up being that he just isn't good enough for a team to part company with a good player to get him. Just guessing, but I think someone is getting too hung up on having the best #5 starter in baseball. It is sort of like saying that Matt Tui is the best short side of a platoon situation. Not a critical issue....especially if you can easily replace him. (ex: Smyly for Porcello)

Porcello "might easily be replaced" by smyly but that leaves a hole in their bullpen and their bullpen is already their weakness. Leave rick where he is, hes been fine as the fifth starter. Porcello has had two bad starts, one of which they won anyhow. I'm not too concerned. I didn't hear a peep about him his last several starts when he was arguably their best starter during this stretch, again as their fifth starter.

Can you name a better trade chip (that can easily be replaced) on the 25 man roster? Come July - Porcello would be the guy I would move to fill a hole. Be it in the pen or to fill a void caused by an injury. No one (well, at lest me) is calling for him to be traded now.

I never said Porcello was un-needed.....learn to read......never said Porcello or anyone else shouldn't be shopped......His name is being specifcly mentioned
by some to be the one to get rid of.....

Learn to read???....I don't recall anyone saying that we will 'get another ACE' as you suggested in your original post. As for RP being 'the one to get rid of'....I think most fans would say he IS the one to get rid of. He is the weakest link of the five (assuming Verlanders 'problems' vanish).

Smyly can't leave the pen. Not without another lefty and another long inning guy anyway. I really don't follow along well when people complain about Porcello. I follow along less when they think Drew is a feasable replacement. He could be, but not without a few roster moves.
